I agree. I just set up a 125 gallon tank 4 months ago. I had a terrible problem with hair algae. I'm attributing that to the cheap sand that I used. I went with white play sand. I think there were minerals in it. Plus I am making my own rock and I'm guessing some minerals came in that way. However, I put in some snails and emerald green crabs which go nuts for the stuff. Plus I've been manually removing it for the last 2 months and with water changes it isn't growing near as fast and the inverts are able to keep up with it now. I don't want all of mine to dissappear because I think it will be beneficial when I get yellow tangs and a coral beauty and a threadfin butterfly, all of which graze on the live rock.

rpgirl...you should post in the disease section since this is the photo section. If you post there you will get more responses....be sure to list all your parameters...tank size, ph, temp, alkalinity, sp gravitiy, ca, how many fish, how long in the tank, whether you use r/o water, what kind of filters etc. this will save time. Also if you have pics of sick fish you can post it sometimes helps...

Frank...any more pics??? I would like to be adopted too by the way, I'm not sure how many of us you are planning to adopt....hope my request is not too late!
Also can't you get a uv sterilizer running eventually which should help control the unwanted algaes??? Or is this a "NO NO" for a reef system?
Also did I see a bird cage near your tank in one pic? What kind of birds? I have 10 budgies...so when you adopt me I will also clean the bird cage...

yeah i have 2 uv sterilizers running...im not sure how effective they are but the algea has cleared up mostly im thinking about rearranging the rock work at the moment but everything has been running fine except i almost had a fire under my tank...i heard this buzzing noise and it turns out the cords i had for the light couldnt handle all the electricity so i upgraded them and now they are doing fine...everything is almost all stable and im moving my rock from my other tank into the new one soon and then the fish....and yes that is a bird cage i have a sun conure ill post a picture of it later...
