Sure do! I appologize for not giving your our itinerary. We'll be arriving on the 24th sometime between 5-10 pm. We'll give you a call as we get closer! If it isn't a inconvenience I would like to stay at your house, but we have other options if that doesn't work.
Can't wait to see you!!!

When I turn the filtration off, both horses recognize that as feeding time and make their way to this little area. The food very slowly makes its way down to them, and they can snick their little hearts out. I'm feeding considerably less this way, and I get to watch them more as they eat...they really eat a lot at one sitting.

That's wonderful
I was wondering about this very idea. Good to hear both are happy and healthy. Any more news regarding Apache?

Hey Ryk,
I would LOVE to have you stay at our house...BUT...do you remember what my house looks like? VERY tiny, and Mike will be in the beginning stages of school starting...orientation and beginning of the year stuff that weekend. I can't wait to see you again too...you are such a nut!!
If you would like, I could PM some phone numbers to some very nice hotels in our area. At least that way we could meet for breakfast on Saturday morning??
Let me know.

No real solid news about Apache...but I'm scoping him out every single day. One day I think yeah, another day I think no. I'll let you be the judge when you get here...course by then I would hope the situation would be pretty obvious one way or the other. I do keep thinking he's getting a "bump" though...could be just me.
I did a 3 gallon change in their tank tonight. That always makes me feel so good. I waited until after they had eaten, and actually until after the big light went off (hope there's nothing bad about that). Jonah's here, and I wanted to make sure he was settled before getting too involved in anything. The change went great...another smaller one (2 gallons) on Sunday. I hope this is a good plan for them...it's definitely something that I can do.
Can't wait to see you again Ryk, and to meet your family!!

One happy little nut!!!
As for the size of your house I'm waaaaaaay ahead of ya. We have 2 stops on our vacation at camp grounds, so we have all the gear. So if it's okay with you we could pitch the tent in your back yard. My parents like to go camping; my mom has taught me all the secrets of being comfy while camping
I had so much fun when I visited last time. If I could I'd change the itineary of our trip, I'd skip over to your house and spend the rest of our vaction enjoying Apache and Navajo and talking about future tanks ideas

Sounds great, I can't wait to see Apache's pouch. From what I've seen from my male ponies the fry like to play peek-a-boo in the pouch. One day the pouch will be extended-the next it's flat. I have at least one if not 2 pregnant males. I can hardly wait to get home and see how many more babies there are!
I also brought alot of reading material about how to deal with nuisance algae and other problems that arise in seahorse tanks. .I have a bunch of info to share with you when we get there

I don't think that's going to work out...it's been raining here non-stop since Saturday, and forcast is for rain into Friday. The yard's a complete mess (dog poop soup). Our basement even took in water, and that takes a lot of rain to make that happen. I hope you can come up with an alternative plan.

Oh my goodness! Flood city!!! I hope your power didn't go out. Brian, Aria, and I all to pooped to pop, so if it's okay with you I think Brian and I will take a "rain check"
and reschedule for a dryer visit
Let me know if that's okay.

No, that's fine. I'm SO SICK of the rain!!! Power's been fine, so far. I shouldn't complain though, it could be a lot worse from what I'm seeing on the news...and not so far away from us, either. Flash flood watch in effect here through Friday...ugh...

Wow, flood warning until Friday!!!
I'm glad to hear you still have power; that's a salt tank owner's worst night mare, especially for reef tanks. Our horses wouldn't mind too much especially since it's still summer.
Once the water retreats, we'll reschedule

Any more news about the happy couple? Yesterday my fish sitter called me on my cell phone.
Bracing myself for the worse I took the phone from Brian~ turns out all that was wrong was one of the dowels that holds the breeding pitcher was stuck
and the other pitcher had a slight leak. Both were easily solved.
Stay dry

Well, they've extended the flash flood watch until tomorrow morning...ugh. BUT, the forecast for our area for the weekend looks like it might just be nice enough to start drying things out a bit. Here's hoping!!
Ryk, I'm glad that the news you got on your vacation wasn't anything serious. Wow, you're really lucky to have found someone to take care of your dwarves!! Good job! Let me know how things are when you get home, I'm sure they'll be great.
I did a 3gal change in my sh tank tonight and everything is looking really spiffy again. I kinda feel bad cause when I turn the equipment off now to do a change, Apache and Navajo think it's time to get fed again
. They get over it in short order though with the movement that I cause. But then after I'm done, they're out and about hunting things edible that I've stirred up.
I also cleaned my equipment in my reef...glad I got all that done, yay me!!

Well, as of 1 am Saturday morning we are home. The tanks are not as bad as I thought, but something is definately very wrong with the pony tank. Half the seahorses are missing, one fatality, and a small invasion of evil aiptasia has sprung up

Glad to hear you horses are doing well and the flood waters are receeding.
Tons of things to do now that we're home. Do you have any new pics to post?

No new pics, but I'll definitely try to get some this weekend some time...lots to do here too. Today I'll be cleaning my living area, and hopefully tomorrow Beth and I will be able to set up a tank in her classroom for the blessed event
... should that happen.
I've really noticed that Apache and Navajo have become quite a bit more affectionate with each other. If they are awake, they are hanging around together and more times than not, they have their tails hitched (awwwe). They still sleep in their own areas though. In any event, they've both grown considerably. This morning I went in to see if they wanted breakfast and was surprised to find them together on the big coral, both just as silver as could be. I could even see the dark stripes of Navajo's tail. I've read somewhere that this is a sign of contentment. Hope so.
Ryk, I'm sorry to hear about the state of your pony tank. Hope you can whip that back in to shape. Keep us posted.

Awwwwwwwwe. That's so sweet. Sounds like a very happy couple.
It is extremely rewarding to see your fish flourishing.
What kinds of preparations have you made so far in the event that you become a seahorse grandma.

So, the first picture is the one and only picture that I could get of Navajo because the batteries went dead on the camera. The next 3 are pictures of Apache making his way through a cave in his quest for pods. He was kind enough to pose for me when he got there...so...what do you think...babies, or no babies. I'm on the fence about it. One day I think yep for sure, but then again, maybe not. He and Navajo have grown so much since they arrived home, I venture to say about an inch each longer, and who knows how much wider they are (they were very tiny when I got them).
Enough chatter, here they are... Lisa

I've been in and out observing Apache and Navajo today. I wanted to reconfirm that they are indeed finding pods in their hunting throughout the day (since I'm not home most days to see it). I've noticed that they are snicking at the glass, the rocks, and the sponges. Makes me feel better since I took their algae pockets out. Those will be going back in in the near future...I think that I can still make them work in this system. Always studying. But for now, I'm comfortable with that fact that they are getting what they need.

Beautiful!!!!!! You get the "Happiest Seahorse" tank award for August
Both of your horses are the perfect picture of health and happiness.
From the pictures of Apache, not only is he handsome, but I'd be willing to wager his pouch is starting to expand. Valiant's pouch was much flatter.

Today we completely rearranged the downstairs family room. Here's a pic of the lay out.

Thanks Ryk,
I'm really beginning to think that Apache is just growing, as he should. How long is kuda gestation? I looked at him tonight and thought "no, he's not getting puffier in that area!!" Both he and Navajo are getting really big though...and well they should, they both eat like there's no tomorrow...yay!!

How are things going with your ponies?

The book I have says 30 days for gestation period. But one thing is for sure, you're horses are happy and healthy
And they have definately grown too.

Thank you Ryk,
I think so too. I also have come to the conclusion that, yes, Apache may be pregnant...but NOT from the episode that he and Navajo went through in the beginning of August (who knows what that was all about). It does, however, look like he's getting a little "bump"...we'll see...
