I like it! If its poop give me 2 scoops LOL. That goes with my beat it to fit and paint it to match attitude. Keep up the good work.

The look of it was not what impressed, but the thought behind it, the concept. Shows skills. Gotta try your ideas out first to hone them into something that you can "make non poopie"!

If I could take credit for it I would but, the idea is nothing new. Hagen sells them (or use to). A bit on the bulky side for me, so I tried to make a slightly more compact version that still works.
That smilely is great. You post some good stuff.

I gotta agree with Spanko here. It's a great idea, and TBH it doesn't really look THAT bad. Maybe a little cleanup, and possibly paint it so it's not that nice dayglo "PVC-white" color. Black, gray, or whatever your background color is and it'll blend right in to the scenery!

What did you use for that first skimmer? Looks like parts from one of those hollow TP rolls that you put freshener scent into. (feel free to make all the poopie jokes you want here....)
Thank you.
The first skimmer was made out of a intake piece to a cascade canister filter I used to own. I never used it so it happened to be in a box of aquarium junk I keep stashed.

Ha,Ha. If it doesn't fit, get a bigger hammer.

I read the other night that the slick that builds up on the surface of the water, is caused by a lack of O2 and or feeding to much. Does anybody know if this is true or not? It seems like a load of muck to me. If it is true.....then we could just bubble O2 into the tank instead of CO2, No?

If you are getting a build up on the water surface.......................
You aren't skimming well enough.
You don't have enough surface agitation.

Don't buy the feeding too much - I've got it in a 20L right now that I haven't feed anything into in over 3 months (FYI it also has a nasty hair algae bloom going on), and prior to that I fed a small amount of mysis shrimp twice in an entire year period.

Well the cycle has started. I'm showing ammonia and a very slight showing in color on the trates. Looks like the the MB7 has started to kick in. Sweet.

Sweet! Any chance of a full detailed description or a link on the skimmer build? Gotta come up with something for my 20L, and I'm not much into the couple hundred dollar scene for a skimmer for a 20L.

I think I may have led you slightly off course. The skimmer is just a surface skimmer for the input to the HOB.

I do have a DIY skimmer though. I built it for my 29, its an air stone unit. Not sure if that strikes your fancy or not? I did however spend a little time with one of the engineers at work today about the "science" behind a venturi. I have an itch to try and build my own skimmer. I am thinking that I will use a maxi for the pump.

Ah - sorry I missed that, guess I was "skimming" a little too fast LOL. I'd be curious to see the maxi driven skimmer - although I don't have the greatest luck with the maxijet impellers staying together. I probably have a 100 pumps right now without impellers, wonder if there is a market for impeller less maxis?

Ah well. Say, I've been wondering - are you the same Posiden from NR?

I'm not sure if the mod for the maxis comes with a new impeller or not, but you might be able to get a few of those. Maybe a discount for a large purchase and then sell them. IIRC the 1200 will do something like 1600 GPH with the mod.

I'll let you know how the project turns out. When I ever get around to it.

No, I'm not on NR. I've given it some thought and I asked Spanko about the site over there. Maybe??

Last night the amm had gone down some. The trites, and the trates were just starting to show.

I am going on the hunt for recipes for DIY food. If anyone has a recipe or two that they would like to share that would be great.

Since I know how folks like to look at pics, here is a night time shot of the tank.

So I have a batch of food in the freezer now.

I used;
1 Scallop
2 Prawns
1 Palm sized piece of cod
1/2 the flat of PE Mysis
1 small flat of Krill
1 bar of Cyclopeze
1/2 bottle of Oyster Feast
1oz of Phyco Pure phytoplankton
2 sheet of Nori
I really wanted to add vitamins but I don't have any on hand. So, I will thaw the food with the vitamins and that's gonna have to work for now. I will add them to the next batch as well as some spirulina.

This gave me 2 cups of food. I will see how they like it tonight. I separated it into zip lock bags and I am freezing them into flats.

My poor little fire fish went through the intake tube on my HOB. I hope he makes it. Things just aren't going right for me and my fish right now.
