I would set the heater to where the tank always stays at 81. Keep in mind that just because the heater says 81 does not mean that is what the temp is, you still have to use a thermo to make sure. My tank stays between 80-81 and is perfectly fine.

I don't think you have finished your testing in regards to heating yet. Yes set the heater to 79 and run the lighting on a normal schedule and see what happens.

haha thanks man, where the hell have you been? i havent seen you wh0ring the boards latley.. lol.. the rockwork i had 2 jock from you .. i kept trying to mimic it from my old tank and in ever had enough room.. haha..
yeah i came up ont he frog, and right now comming up on a hammer coral.. on another board i found some guy wanting to get rid of it because it was taking up his whole tank so he sold a lot of frags for 5$ and he still had so much left over that he started to give it away for free so im going to go pick it up right now and give him cash and bring back the entire thing.. man i need 2 start getting my 24 up and running soon so i can fit my new corals in there
do you guys think i should frag it into little peaices and put it around in the tank everywhere .. or should i leave 1 fat one and the other one frag it into a couple peaices and place it around.. im not sure..
will update with new hammer and maybe some mushrooms when i get back .. see ya guys..

finally got my eggcrate to start making my top.. and i got a splitter for my timer so i can put BOTH tanks on 1 timer so the lights will come on/off at the same time..
question about moon/day lights.. should i throw those on timers?.. as right when my MH turn off, my WHITE LED's will come on for what? 4 hours? and then turn off and my moon lights come on for another 4 hours and then everything is dark till the MHs pop on?.. is this just for looks ? or is it benifical..
finally got my lights on the regular cycle so i can monitor the temp ..

both at the same time?.. how long do u keep them on for before they go out?.. and are they beneficial for the livestock or is it pure cosmetic?

i just raised my lights 1 inch (which i doubt is going to do anyyyyyy difference).. pretty much folded 6 peaices of paper and stuffed it under the legs 3 on each side...

the temp is at 82.2 right now and ive got 45 min left of my lights to hit 8 hours

So it sounds like about 82 is your max. That is on the higher side, but still acceptable. My advice is to keep tinkering with your heater to get it to stay as close to 82 at night as possible.
Also, you don't want your frogspawn touching zoas, they can kill them. Sometimes people get by, but it is just safer to move them.
