Russia has now bombed cities outside of the "breakawy" province, begun blockading Georgian ports, and bombed the International Airport.
Still think we should do nothing?
My opinion is we should park a couple of our carrier fleets in the Black Sea off the coast of Georgia and immediately begin enforcing a No Fly Zone over all of Georgia.

adding more fuel to the fire will accomplish nothing.

a show of force by us now just might add fuel to the fire.
UPDATE: just heard an "international brokered" cease fire is being proposed.
Georgia's president has already signed it.

he saw the light at the end of the tunnel and realized russia has more tanks than georgia has troops and that maybe this looked better on paper.

Where is the "no war for oil" crowd? This is definitely a war for oil.

I know it has been just about irrelevant but we need to hold an emergency meeting of the U.N. security council. Strongly condemning Russia's actions and calling it genocide and possibly impose immediate sanctions. Russia would consider a U.S. imposed "No Fly Zone" over Georgia an act of war, no? I think everything must be done by the book going through the UN and/or NATO..

I still think we need to find the real reasons behind why the South Ossetia residents want out so bad. I mean, the fact they ran to into Russia should be really eye-opening. The Polish/French, sure as heck didn't run into Germany during WWII.

Braves are page 2, because page 1 is reporting all of the arrests of the Bulldog football team...

Not all of the citizens fled north.
Ossetia had a large population of Russians. Insurgents have been working in Ossetia for years trying to overthrow the Georgian government. The Soviets have had "peacekeepers" there since the early nineties.

I can think of two reasons.
1. They already fought a war with Georgia and have been running their own affairs a decade.
2. They were running away from the direction that started firing on them.
The way I see it is Georgia thought they would only have to fight the little providence and not Russia. The fact that Russia has struck back with such determination shows how scared Russia is and they are trying to show the world they are still a force. And if they regain some control of areas they lost after the cold war I'm sure they won't mind

Well, isn't that exactly it, then? If Ossetia been "independent" since the 90's, why are Georgian forces occupying Ossetia?
Also, I thought Georgia started this by killing 12 Russian Peacekeepers?

I would say its more complicated then just they were 'independent'. At one time they were part of Georgia and I'm sure some of the residents still want it to be. Unfortunately both Russia and Georgia have an interest in the region and I doubt either of them are interested in letting the citizens decide their own fate.
As far as Peacekeepers... I doubt Georgia considers a military force in what is still considered their country as welcome 'peacekeepers'
In the end its much more complicated then just who shot first or what people want.... Much like any war.

It is fun being prez isn't it. you are supporting G trying to get them into NATO, then Russia attacked who has been one of the key players with Iran, and a needed vote if you want the UN to do anything with Iran... Got to love world politics. But to me it sounds like an border skirmish, with no clear cut badguy.

I think we should declare that the people in Toronto are US citizens and then attack Canada until they concede that Toronto is ours. If we did that, I wouldn't see the difference between that and what Russia is doing.

It would be more accurate if it were montreal and the city govt decided to succeed and be annexed by the USA...

I think a more accurate scenario would be:
Mexico sends "peacekeepers" into Southern California because they are concerned about how their citizens are being treated by the US. Then, those citizens begin working to secede. When the US moves to reclaim the seperatist region Mexico bombs and then invades the entire USA...
A very similar thing was done by Hitler when he annexed the Chec. Republic.
