And closer than using tried and true technologies to tap enough oil to last for decades at current usage.

I guess your mentality is if it ain't broke don't fix it.. instead of finding a better or more effiecient way to do things. And it is the answer, because oil is a limited resource that will continue to rise in price unless alternatives become mainstream.
Wouldn't turning waste into useable energy (oil) be one of the greatest inventions/discoveries in modern ... in fact all of history. Facts are that our population will continue to grow... and this is in the best interests of everyone... the rate of usage will expand year after year just based on more drivers being on the road... I would welcome cleaner energy ... we can just look at Beijing to see all the ill affects of smog, cars, and industry.

I know what it is, except scientists say it takes millions of years to form... What they are working on takes place over the course of a few days or something like that.

The same experts who say polar bears are endangered, and have $$ invested in "green business"?
The simple fact is right now we have a efficient source of accessible energy, and alot of it. But for some illogical reason, we are being told that instead of utilizing it, we must rid ourselves of it because it is bad, pay the government for them to delegate development of "new sources of energy" invent it and implement it on a nationwide level, and this will be easier and quicker than laying a few pipelines and putting some holes in the ground. This isn't if it ain't broke dont' fix it. This is if it didn't work before it isn't going to work now. When you have government trying to control free markets the markets always crash or run inefficiently.
If you want to keep repeating the same mistakes over and over go ahead but don't blame it on me when it doesn't work...

Unless you want to knock my same "experts argument" which I don't totally buy, but it is perfectly ok if you flip it and say oil company owned scientist and politicians...

Wait a minute. What in the hell does Russia want with Georgia? It has nothing but pinetrees and swamps. I hate driving through it to get to the mountains.

Russia has always wanted control of the Middle East. If you look back over the last couple of years Putin and leading Russian officials have frankly stated the Middle East is vital for "the well being of Russia".
Russia has been the behind the scenes player in every Arab invasion of Israel. For 50 years they have been trying to stake a claim in the Middle East.
Having said that, look at a map and see where Georgia falls in relation to that goal. I firmly believe this invasion is a test to see how the west would respond.

I agree.
Many believe that our time in Viet Nam was a fruitless waste of life. I disagree. I think it showed the world that we were willing to fight the oppressors of the world for what we know to be right and good. We spent a long time there (and the surrounding area) when even much of America showed disapproval. We are like hot tar...it sticks around and hurts like the dickens.
We may need to stand firm in order to dissuade future aggression.

My opinion is we should park a couple of our carrier fleets in the Black Sea off the coast of Georgia and immediately begin enforcing a No Fly Zone over all of Georgia.
Interesting how the person that wrote this also wrote this.
people just run with the thought that the President wants to start a war with Russia? What the heck...

I don't see how it disagrees, he is saying what he would do, vs questioning why GW is portraited as a war monger...

He is questioning why people are saying that BW wants to start a war with Russia when he is advocating a direct military confrontation with the russian army. Plus what he says about Russia wanting to stake a claim in the middle east, Heck we are occupying a country in the middle east (Yes I know... the UN resolutions. but there are no UN resolutions pertaining to the Russia/Georgia conflict)
But then I am breaking one of my rules by even commenting on a political thread. Much more to say but if I do I will be called an idiot for doing it so back to ignoring the political threads.
Don't bother commenting, I will not be reading it.

sure if they were one and the same. I am for the most part a bush supporter, but I strongly dissagree with some of the bills he has signed in regards to bailouts and stuff. I think that is all you are seeing from Journey...

So.
Russia and Iran are trading partners.
Russia has veto power on the UN security council.
About a week ago a time passed that Iran had to answer some questions to the UN about their uranium enrichment program or other sanctions may be imposed.
Punish Russia for what they are doing in Georgia, they veto, and most probably would anyway, new sanctions on Iran.
Diplomacy sucks. Especially when the world is really about power (might) and who has it.
Iran and Russia seem to be thumbing their collective noses at the rest of the world.

*Russia invaded an Ally. Our reaction would not be "starting" anything. It has already begun.
*We are not "occupying" any country in the Middle East that I'm aware of.
