I came up with an algae scrubber design that uses much more surface area in a smaller overall package last night when i couldnt sleep. Lol. Ill have to draw it and maybe build and test it out before posting a diagram.

My Kole Tang has bumped himself against the glass a few times and his bottom lip looks damaged/hurt. I'm going to put some selcon soaked seaweed in the tank tomorrow to see if I can get him to eat some. So far no good. :( I'm tryin'. Need suggestions.

Aww, man I'm sorry to hear that. How bad is the injury, and how long has it been since he's eaten? He might just need a couple days to heal up before he starts munching on the nori again.

Yeah, he's 6 days old in a tank setting. He's probably going through a lot!
He hasn't eaten in three days. No big deal - I'm sure he will be fine. Fish can *potentially* go up to 30 days as long as they are plump and well fed before they started to not eat. He's fat and filled, so I'm sure he will get hungry enough to adapt.

I'm busy with school work, but I might be able to get a couple pics and post them this evening. English papers suck.

I know what you mean about English papers. Lucky for me, I completed all my English courses. Now, I have mostly business courses that are VERY boring.

It's funny.... I had all of my Englishes and 98% of my core courses done when I was in Social Studies Ed. But then when I switched over to Biology ed, I had to take an additional English class for some odd reason. I'll be happy when I don't have to take anymore of these courses. I'll be glad when Psyc is over with as well. After this semester - it's all Biology and teaching courses. :D

I actually went through calculus and made an A. Now, that was three years ago. I have no idea what the heck I would be doing if I had to sit down and do a problem. LOL
The tank is going well. No deaths. The Kole tang has a mouth fungus. I read up on it and the "internet" told me that he will either get better or not at all. So, I'm crossing my fingers - and considering taking the little guy back if it gets any worse. Right now he still seems happy and swimming around. He's not rubbing his mouth on anything anymore - and in fact is occasionally picking on the rocks (not scratching against the rocks - but normal tang behavior.

Try live brine after putting some garlic juice in there. It seems to work even with most finicky eaters.

The Kole Tangs mouth is healing up well. It's top lip doesn't look damaged anymore. It's bottom lip looks fuzzy, kind of - but not as bad as it did in the last two days. I guess stress was making the fish more prone to disease. If this is all that happens to the little guy - and he lives - I'll be very happy. I have seen him kind of nip at the nori that was floating by him. Trying to get him to eat is proving to be very difficult.
SOOOO, I just got the rest of the money to build one of Richards (Siptangs) wonderful poor man's LED light fixture. I'll be ordering parts within the next week unless I see otherwise.
I decided not to get the dimmable units with the controller and all that jazz. I got to thinking about it and I am almost never at home when the lights start to come on and I'm usually in bed before the lights go out. It wouldn't matter much if they were just on timers anyhow. That's how I've always done it - and it has worked for years. ...
Now back to re-reading Sip's LED thread. lol

Good to hear that kole tang is doing well.
I have decided to go with one more strip of 10 3w whites. I want my par to pop and acro to just really go nuts.
Lens does help tremendously so I recommend you get the lens as well.
I'm very happy so far.

I'm planning on doing something a little different then yours as well, if you don't mind. :D
I also have a client down in south louisiana with a small freshwater tank and I was toying around with the idea of making an LED fixture for 12 LEDs of warm white and one ballast.... A quick and easy project as well.. maybe a pre-curser to building mine.
So, I have the money now to do what I want to do. I just am scared of pulling the trigger on a $200 purchase that may or may not work out. :( Then again, I like experimentation and this is right up my alley.

Eh, today the koles mouth is worse. :( I don't understand how it could go from better to worse in 24 hours.
I guess I should ask Beth a few questions.
Anyways, I guess I am off to put some cash in the bank and I am ordering the LEDs this afternoon.
