Looks good....Maybe the increase in bio load was the ticket for the skimmer......
Possibly. I added two new fish and have been feeding flake foods 2-3 times a day. Maybe the tank just needed time to settle in.
I know the next thing I really need is an updated lighting system so that my SPS do a little better.

Yup. Looks really good. Looks like your softies are going to take over your tank you better start thinking upgrade. Lol. How much you want to bet that your electrical cords in your stand is making Shawn have a coronary!!!!! Lol.
I've got a guy near by that is selling mangroves for $5 a pc. I really want to get some but not sure if I should wait. I want some diversity in my fuge this time that's for sure.
Thanks! Yeah, well, I can't upgrade anytime soon. If they start growing too much I'll have to frag pretty often. I fed that clam juice and it looked like it did a good job. I'm going to add another tsp tonight. Give my skimmer something to work for. lol
I personally don't like mangroves, but if you have the room, go for it!

Are you vodka dosing?? Or do you just keep your stash under the tank?? It looks like you have a bottle of booze next to your sump in the second pic. LOL.
No, I'm not vodka dosing (just yet) I do keep it under my tank because there isn't really any other place to put it. lol. I don't drink - so it's going to be used for the tank or given to a friend pretty soon. Besides, I think giving away cheap booze is an insult anyways,... I may just keep it for the tank. heh

Why i say just yet is because i honestly dont know what i will do from year to year. I like to mix things up and try new things.

I hadn't even noticed the cords.......Thanks Bob......I've thought about Mangroves and want to try them at some point, and I don't think $5 is a lot, but they aren't the fastest growing per say or the quickest at nutrient export, but would be valuable and make a neat addition to a fuge IMO.....

Well, its official. I am selling off my tank and some equipment. I cant keep the tank going whilr i am in school. I simply dont have the money i want to spend on it to make it a truly wonderful tank.
I am saving a few things from the system though so i may not have to buy it later but then again i may sell it off to buy better equipment in the future.
In any case, it all has to go until i get out of school, start my career and get some land.
Even though the tank has to go for moneys sake, i am still going to be a regular on here. No reason for me to stop researching.

Eh, all is well that ends well.
I'm not happy to see it go, but I know that everything will be alright in the end.
I'm definitely not leaving the hobby though. I like this forum too much, and I like helping people too much to just quit it all together.

I can understand trying to juggle school and young children and household debt and everything in between,I know you will come back when you can give the wildlife the attention they deserve. It is better to take a break rather than not being able to give 100 percent.just my opinion

Well, school isn't easy - and it is getting harder every semester, (like it should.) Having a toddler on top of it as well as trying to be a husband and family man and juggling work on weekdays... it's enough to make anyones head spin. I'm sure going to miss it, but having consistantly high ($200) electric bills makes me think that I won't miss it too much for the time being.

I understand that,I have so many plugs plugged in,sometimes I wonder how my wires are holding up,and I'm getting ready to add another one with a pump for my carbon/gfo reactor

Yeah man... I actually audited my aquariums electricity. I calculated how many kilowatts it is using and how much it costs to run. $50 a month just in electricity for the tank. I assume another $50 or more because I have to run the air conditioner during the day to keep the tank cooled. If I didn't have the tank or the AC going 24/7 my electric bill would be back down to 60-80 like it used to be... if not less.
And that isn't including all the water that I use in the tank for top off and water changes. I also spend money on it - fish, corals, inverts, lights, equipment etc. etc. I figure it's a money pit that I can't afford right now. Putting everything up for now just makes a lot of financial sense to me at the moment.

Hey do you know if a coral like an Acan will grow back over an exposed skeleton if conditions are right? I think my Acan got stung or something repeatedly by my hammer and lost some tissue, I moved it but now it has a big ugly area, should I leave it alone or cut the damaged area off ?

I also saw my klauwitz Blenny always hanging out in the spot where there is no tissue but he is a small fish, Hmmm,I don't know what caused it for sure, the hammer was in striking distance for sure

I saw my Blenny eating some of the dead tissue this morning. I'm beginning to think he might be the culprit

I am sorry to hear that you are breaking down the tank. But it does make sense.
I am glad that you are going to stick around.

The more I think about it, the more I might need to sell off just the live stock and the live rock and stash most of the equipment. The calcium reactor is still good, the powerheads are still good. The return pump still works... the top off system probably won't go bad over time. You know what I'm saying? Just stash it all somewhere dry until I can get it all set back up again. If I can find a place to stash the aquarium, I might keep that too.
