Snakes vitamin C dosing thread

Last night I doser 1000mg of vitamin c into my skimmer chamber instead of my return pump chamber and my skimmer became like ultra super efficient and overflowed the cup and put skimmate back into the tank. Lol. So, if you are dosing, try to mix it in AFTER your skimmer chamber and not in it. I'd hate it if someone had an external skimmer and they did this. It will overflow.
I'm spending this evening adjusting it back.
I'm also considering changing dosing up a little. It will still be 1000mg a day, but half in th morning and half in the evening.

Well, I came home today to find that all my coral but the original orange monti cap and my fish is dead. :(
The cap is hanging on by a thread. :(.
I think some "round up" herbicide accidentally got into the tank. I sprayed some around and I guess I didn't completely wash my hands before I put them in the tank. 8(
So, that's that.
I'm not going to do the vitamin c dosing anymore with this tank. I hate it turned out this way. I do not believe that it was the vitamin c that did anything, just a coincidence. I also think my temp got too hot, the ac was off today and it got really hot. Maybe a bad temp swing could have also caused this. I don't know. I'm just really sad. It's times like this that make me want to throw in the towel.

Hey, Seth sorry to hear this. Wondering if you would be willing to test the tank for the basics and let us know what they are? Currious to see what the p.h. is mostly. Did you say you dosed with pills made for human consumption?

Hey, Seth I've heard a few stories of skimmers overflowing all of their contents before being noticed and reports that people have lost all of their livestock by the following day as a result. I think in most of those situations the skimmer was fairly full with waste when it happened and just about ready to be emptied. Dunno if this might have played a roll in your situation or not but thinking a heavy dose of waste dumped back into the tank certainly wouldn't be a good thing. Just a thought.

I had emptied the cup earlier that same day. There wasn't much of anything skimmed out of the water yet.
My parameters arent that far off. The top four are zero. Ca is 440, alk is 11dKH, and pH is 8.0-8.2. I'm colorblind and my wife wasnt home to to me what the pH was accurately. Sorry guys.
I really think it was the herbicide. I had sprayed around the house and around this years garden and then came home and saw a frag knocked over and before I thought about it I stuck my hand in the tank. :(

Yeah, sounds like that would be the prime suspect at this point. Sorry, dude! And not to rub it in but you really should wear some gloves, mask and goggles when spraying that stuff. Round Up is a non selective herbicide so it's meant to kill whatever you spray it on. I used to have to have a special endorsement on my certification card for using similar products for vegetation control jobs back in the day because it's pretty nasty stuff. You really don't want it in your skin, mouth, eyes or inhale it.

I know I know.
It's a shame. I'm beating myself up over it.
Just makes me want to start over. Jump on the next tank soon.

IME this is the time to utilize the C. Do a big water change and dose. This would be an amazing experiment!! Really!!!!!

Wow Seth. That sucks!!! Sorry.
I just restocked some gloves for the tank. I had to go in there without them a couple of time and I did not like it.
Sometimes things happen. Now you can start setting up the 110!!!!

FWIW, we've been dosing our fish with vit C for awhile now, along with other things (beta glucan, carotenoids, spirulina, a triple B complex, etc) with good results. We either feed the supplements to live ghosties or inject them with the supplement. We don't maintain a constant level in the tankwater, however, we've been having good results with this delivery method.
