Men have an advantage in dieting in that small changes result in more progress then what I think women encounter when attempting to drop weight.
Painful dieting should be avoid in preference to an altered lifetime diet of healthy eating where you are not deprived of foods you like and forced to eat things that you wish you didn't have to eat.
Both you you and wife should have a healthy diet right now, so there should not be a conflict with what she eats, and what you eat.

really i am 5 foot 10- 190 and i am trying to get to 200-205.but i hit the gym alot
6 foot i say 200 is about right.maybe 190
if you go by doctor charts your ribs will be sticking out like a model.i really dont know your eating habits .snacks are the devil.i never snack just eat my 3-5 meals a day all rounded out.but i have been a health nut most of my life and i would imagine its hard to break bad habits .especially when it comes to food.who does the food shopping? maybe if the wife went ,you two sat down and wrote out the food list and stuck to it.then if it aint in the house you cant eat it.dont take cash with you when you leave the house so you cant afford to buy crap food.

I would like to weigh 190.
I know what I've been doing wrong. It's just getting the motivation and urge to fix it. To get to my goal, I have to loose 41 pounds.
I guess if I can't do it for myself, I can do it for my newborn daughter.
We both go grocery shopping. Lately I just haven't cared.
Though, I am starting to be concerned. I'm having to go up a pants size. I'm very unhappy.

Just don't eat crap. Avoid all processed foods and don't cut back on anything else.
Sure, you won't loose 20lbs over night, but eventually your weight will start slimmin' down.
One lb a week, maybe, but, you'll actually stick to the plan and enjoy it........... and keep the weight off.
My. 02 (Bob forgot to end off with that. Lol)

lol, easier said then done with a pregnant wife.
I know what I have to do, right now it's just getting the motivation to do it.
It will all work out.
I think what I will do is set a goal - and instead of focusing on weight loss and dieting, I might need to think about some other lofty goal that will require me to loose weight... like running a marathon, or doing a triathalon or something.

how about every time your wife catches you eating junk food she gives you a big kick in the sack? that would work for sure.

with a pregnant wife you both should be eating healthier.....
Like traveler said,, cut out the junk...your wife should especially be making sure she is eating healthier so she doesnt get gestational diabetes and be healthier for the baby...
(and it makes it a WHOLE lot easier to lose the weight after she has the baby)
The EASIEST thing to do is to cut down or out pasta .. if you LOVE it then atleast eat whole grain..
If RICE is your thing,, replace it with QUINOA
just no fast food (or only 1 time a week) and little to no 'boxed' dinners...
stay in the outside aisles :)

It'll definitely be easier once the baby is here. Then you'll both be wanting to loose weight, so you'll have someone on your side. And of course, once Emma starts crawling/walking, you'll loose the weight, LOL

i dont know about that btld.when my brother had his kids he packed on 30 lbs.why? lol you know those little glass foods they sell for babies ? i mean peas, carrets whatever is i n there i dont know for sure i dont have kids.i think its gerbers foods.well apparently they are high calorie and when my nephews only ate a spoon or two my bro would finish it all the time.i went to visit up there and he got himself an inner tube around him from eating the kids left overs.
this was 9 years ago .he is alot slimmer now that he and the kids take karate.
my wife is trying to lose some weight.she really dont need to she is 5 foot 8 and 120-125 lbs.but she went shopping saturday morning .i helped bring in the food.looking at it there was doritos, dounuts, chips i forget what else.i said who is this for? she said me well wtf? the stuff hasnt been touched.she buys this stuff and it sits around for a couple week untill she brings it to work for everyone there.i think she gets it because she has a coupon or something?dont get me wrong i will eat junk food once in a while but i cant just grab a bag and sit in front of the tv and chow on the stuff.
personally i keep baby carrets in a bowl of water in the fridge so when i open the door there is something healthy to snack on.lately i have been grabbing these small oranges .my wife bout these seedless ones there are great.just find something to snack on that isnt junk.

I would have to think it will only get harder when the baby comes. I have been spending the week with my niece and she is constantly snacking on something and eats several small meals throughout the day. She is always on the go, which makes it easy for me to just grab a snack to eat. I think it would benefit both you and your wife to get into good eating habits now.

Good diets cost money!
Can you all recommend a good easy healthy breakfast that doesn't have to be cooked?
Snacks? Fruit, I know.

good diets dont cost alot.i eat alot of chicken, eggs and milk.all cheap compared to other foods.most fresh foods are cheap.its the pre packaged crap meals in a bag for the micro that are expensive and bad for you.i cook breakfast almost everyday.eggs, toast, milk and either a few strips of bacon or sausage,it takes me 10 minutes start to finish.i have a routine.micro the bacon as thats going scramble eggs and start the stovetop ,put the toast in.all done at the same time.

In reference to it being a little easier after the baby comes, I was more looking at it from the side that you're wife will be in the same boat as you. You won't have one person in the house trying to eat everything in sight while the other is trying not to. But of course, if you snack with your child once she's a toddler, or taste all her foods, yeah, you're not going to loose weight.
The best diet that ever worked for me was the Kellog's Special K. I thought I was going to hate eating cereal or cereal-like products all the time, but it really wasn't bad. I modified it somewhat because I hated the drinks, but the cereal and fruit for breakfast/lunch really did fill me up and the weight came off easy. Of course, I was only looking to loose about 15-25lbs, but still.

SO I just watched three separate food programs on Netflix. I learned a lot about nutrition that I didn't know. I think that if I am going to make a change to my diet, I need to do it now before my kid gets here. I'm going to adopt a whole foods plant based diet. I'm also going to put my own twist on things. I'm going to figure out meals that can easily make and carry with me. I'm going to try to make cereal or oatmeal in the mornings. After my cereal and milk is gone, I'm going to stop eating dairy all together. I figure that the beans, etc would give me the protein, amino acids etc that I need.
I figure I need to start this and get used to it now.

Just happened to catch your thread Seth and wondered how your making out......I know you put your ideal weight down, but honestly I think those height/weight charts are ridiculous.....I think you'd be perfectly fine at a firm 200lbs.....
I can't give much or any advice since I have some of the worst eating habits around.....I have seen a lot of good suggestions though....My wife actually drives me insane with the healthy food issues in the house...She actually is the health nut. I've never had a weight issue....to be honest I've been the exact same weight since high school...My pant size hasn't changed except for brief period when I bulked my 5'8" frame to 185lbs during my military days, and admit, that in all honest they were my better days physically. Even the military use to use the height/weight charts, and they are harsh.....Granted I worked out 2X a day hard at the gym as well, and ate as I saw fit. Honestly the best weight loss program or regimen I've ever seen is the military way.....2 things come to mind....Healthy foods, and exercise....Real military PT workouts....not this gym nautilus workout stuff down to earth good hard exercise.....
Lots of luck!!!!!
