haha, I know... and I must admit you have been a tad hard on me, but only with good intentions! I knew the whole time so there was no bitterness towards you! :) You were only saying what was needed to avoid me from spending an unnecessary amount of money and getting only what I needed! :)

With all of that being said, I looked at my rock formation when the water had cleared... it looks like trash under there... I want to move a few rocks around but how do I do that without getting sand under the rocks? I moved one rock and I can't seem to get all the sand under it out of there... any tips or tricks without what I would assume the most obvious response: empty out the tank

As you add rock and coral grow, the flow patterns change in the tank. Its also better to have a "clashing" motion in the tank rather then a swirling or directional flow. For a fish only that type of flow is ok. However in a tank with coral, the flow going in one direction will cause low pressure areas around the objects its flowing past. This will not allow the coral or algae to capture food as easily. Think of the ocean, things sway back and forth and tumble around.

Meowzer has come a long way. She is really getting good at this stuff. She is also willing to help out anybody that needs it.

Your a good woman Meowzer. The boards are lucky your around.

On your rock,
Just do the best you can. If tumbling rocks are a big concern, use the putty and or drill the rock and insert acrylic rods to give you the shapes and height you are after. Give some other tanks a look. Most just stack what they have in there. I know that's what I have always done. I did the putty on my 20L that is cycling right now. I wanted different stuff this time. Its nice to be able to make your own ricks shapes. Hammer, chisel, drill, acrylic rod, and reef putty. You have time. Dream it up, then build it.

It'll be a good project for you to get your mind off the cycle. Have a few beers with the wife (girlfriend), and talk about how you want the tank to look. The last thing you want is to hate the way your tank looks when its right there in the middle of your house.

Just move the sand to the side, and push the rock into it the best you can.....some under it won't cause any issues

Yet another question regarding my rock. So I have put my dead rock in the tank (after washing it down)... I also have the live sand in there as well. Theoretically do I HAVE to get live rock? Or is the live sand going to bring this rock back to life? I looked on craigslist and someone had 200lbs of fiji rock... they sold it as of yesterday... I'm a bit angry for waiting so long to add the rock.

Then I will do the same too!

I suppose I will start thinking:

"When in doubt... what would Meowzer do?"

Here it is everyone! It's just over half full... with A LOT of dead rock... It has live sand so I'm hoping it picks up the bacteria and other stuff off the sand. This "rock-scape" (I don't know if this is a new word I'm making up but I've been using it in many posts :) ) is something I'm very pleased with. It has many spots for fish to hide as well as diggers to make a home in under rock. Let me know what you all think... I plan on buying maybe 20lbs or so of some live fiji rock to add to the top of the rocks I have but it'll be difficult as I don't really have much more building structure here.

That looks cool. It looks like you'll have a lot of places to put coral on when the time comes.

Ha,Ha. You wouldn't know the water meter was working over time at the rate you get to fill the tank, right?LOL

WOW...that one piece on the right side would make a great cave topper.....can you put one side of it on that white rock...and balance the other side on the center rock???

You used the glass to hold the rock up???

Ummm, which piece? The white circular rock? I have about 5 or 6 caves around in there right now and just threw the last few rocks that I had in the top right corner because I didn't know where else to put it... I want to still have some space on the bottom for the bottom feeders to play around in.

PS --- THANK YOU BOTH FOR SAYING THE ROCK SET UP LOOKS AWESOME! You don't know HOW happy I am to hear that. I was hesitant as I was setting it up and at the end I personally thought it looked pretty good (except for that right corner that looks like just a cluster %&$! of rock) and the ONLY way I was going to keep it up was to hear from a few people that the set up looks amazing. I WILL sleep well tonight! :)

I can not copy your pic so I could circle the piece

I'll try to describe what I am talking about...., in the 2nd pic, .on the right side, there is a dark rock that is kinda on it's side that is a cave looking rock

that rock could be placed on the white rock (right next to it)....and across to the pile of rocks that you have in the center of the tank
