Yes, I've already had water drip on the carpet from sticking my arm in to rearrange rock with no stains on it... but the overflow of gallons would not look good on a carpet that's for sure. Anyway I think I understand what you mean Meowzer, however, should I close off all access to the refugium and have all water flow the to sump to start out? and just have the water pump through that way? The water will fill up to at least 8" in the sump since the baffles are 8" tall... the tank is 12" tall, so should I let it fill to that point and just wait to see what happens there and kick off the siphon?

Your baffles are 8" and the tank is 12"......that doesn't give you a lot of room to play with

You can do this.....fill up the sump to where you think you want it....you will already have your overflow in the tank, and the tank level should be up to the teeth.....

once the sump is full......start siphon and turn on pump.......watch your levels.....they should stay the same...

then turn off pump.....and see where sump fills. I'm a little worried about the fact that you only have a few inches to play with.....you do not want the water level at the edge of the sump. That will leave you with nothing to spare.....

I had my sump so that if I lost power I had 2" from the top.....now it is much more since I had to redo it to accommodate my new skimmer though

It's either 8" or 7" I can't recall. I'll give your idea a shot and see what will work... it probably will be added tomorrow afternoon, so I'll let everyone know the status of it as long as I get around to that tomorrow.

Sparty doesn't have to start or worry about syphon...his tank is drilled.

Ok, that's what I was thinking. I went to bed scratching my head thinking... how the heck would I get a syphon started on my tank? shouldn't it just automatically drop into the sump on it's own if I have the water go into the O/F. hehe... I didn't want to add anymore confusion to myself or anyone else so I just let it be.

So, I added the canopy back to the aquarium, put the lights back in, started everything up (i'm about to add the last bit of water, just wanted to see how everything looks though) and this is how it looks... Might I add, I've very pleased with myself for doing all of this, and again, I couldn't have done it without everyones help on this forum!

ENJOY! :)

As you can see, it's very dirty! So I will have to do some quick cleaning on the glass within the next few days, just to keep it presentable!

Eeeek! I just did my water dump that has been going for 4 hours... it put it literally a centimeter from the teeth of the O/F... I don't know if it's a sign telling me not to fill past the O/F or if it's just coincidence!

It still has an O/F though. So the water spills through the teeth in the center, it will the fill up and to the top of my pipe that is in the O/F which is about 2 or 3 inches from the top of the O/F. Once the water level hits above that pipe the water will automatically drain down the pipe into the sump. Make sense?

Is that what that is in the center of your tank??

yes then, it makes sense.....you were throwing me off every time you mentioned the over flow....LOL

Yep, that's the buldge in the center of my tank. At first I thought, Hm... that's pretty cool... I can use it to place rock against it. Now when I put my rock in there or some of it... I am just thinking this is a pain in the *** haha. It's kind of taking up room and wish I had a pair of corner O/F's. Oh well, you live and you learn!

Well, the next step will be to fill up my bucket again mix salt with the water and dump the water slowly so it can slip through the teeth without overflowing the actual tank! However, I will be gone for the weekend and the last thing I want is to come home to a puddle of water in my living room. So for right now, the next step will not be taken until anywhere from Monday-Sunday of next week.

I did have one question that didn't seem to get answered unless I skipped right past it on accident. All the rock I have in the tank right now is dead rock. The sand is live sand. I do plan on getting live rock soon, but have yet to do so. So, will the dead rock become live rock? And with that question I mean, will I be able to place coral on there? I read in another thread that coral needs to be placed on live rock to be able to get the nutrients needed to live and stay healthy. Do I have to seed the dead rock with anything? If so, what's a good brand of stuff I should use?

The rock should seed, but will take longer...if you can get a few pieces of live rock to add, that would help

I have never heard that you can only put coral on live rock

I wouldn't use any of those "miracle" tank seeder/water curer/quick cycle (LOL) products they have out there....stay natural my friend HEEHEE
