Stingray people... how many of you are out there?

They do shed them. I have some at home I was able to find in the sand when doing water changes. I wouldnt worry about it unless the area looks red or irritated. Sometimes it takes a few weeks to come back, sometimes they have 2 for a while.

I am thinking about getting a yellow sting ray do you think it will out grow my 125g tank anytime soon. It is only a baby right now I think it is only 4", I might be wrong but that is what it looks like.

Mine is already over 8" in diameter....I would have to say 16" is too small...now that is just my opinion...BUT the 8" does not include the tail.

Yes, a yellow ray will outgrow a 125 pretty quickly. They are very active swimmers... especially when they're young.

No, a 16" wide tank will not be suitable for a stingray. Their maximum width is greater than the tank would be.

So I guess I should get in this conversation...I have been on here for a while and had no idea this thread existed. I had 2 Atlantic rays they came with the thank when I bought it. The story was the mother was caught and when she was landed the babies popped out, one male rayray and one female Stingsting...RIP. I lost her the last time I moved

Here are some pics and a video enjoy!

I was in awww at the LFS a couple of days ago when I saw a small ray swimming around! I fell in love! Now am on the search for what size tank to use, sepcial care, and how big they get! I'd like the smallest hardiest one there is any one! Also how to handle them! We have a 55gal salt tank now, but the ray is soooo cool! And it was very active too!
Thanks!

I had 2 baby Cortez stingrays. But My Hawiian spotted puffer pecked them to death. And my Huma Huma trigger ate them alive. It was horrible. I plan on starting a ray only tank sometime soon.

@meowzer You miss her? I thought you owned her. Am I missing something here? Very nice pics you have. She looks very peaceful, happy and carefree.
In the beginning I didn't know Puffers/Triggers & Rays don't mix. Honestly, Nobody told me. I truly fell in love with both rays right off the bat. I was irate when I saw the Trigger chomping on them. I removed the trigger stat!! But it was too late for the rays, I couldn't save them. They were both very fun to watch( for the 24 hrs I had them). I still miss them to this day and this thread doesn't help me any. I want to go to my LFS now and buy a 200g tank just for Rays. But my wife says NO! And a unhappy wife is a unhappy life. Here some pics of my Rays. I think they both were females.

There is the Puffer and pecked them to death.
