Hey subi ,
just catching up an you'r thread. I had a clown jump the wall and went into the pump chamber
I was looking at the tank one day and noticed the pump not running , I thought it burned out . Seemed strange b/c the tank is only 7mo's old. Well I stuck my hand down the chamber and felt something slimy on the pump....pulled it out and ...NEMO !!!!
his dead little body was blocking the pump from working
very sad!
The next thing i noticed ,was you said you have LR rubble in the fuge? well I have LR rubble in my HOB wet/dry and I gotta tell you I am sorry i do!! it has caused my nitrates to hit the roof! see all the debri that falls off the rock collects and causes a huge spike! I removed all the rock and siphoned out all the junk , of course I placed the rock back so i don't end up with another cycle , but I am slowly replacing the rock with good ol bio balls. I did allot od reading on this and I found the bio balls easier to maintain JMO
If/when you get a spike in nitrites look to the rubble first as the cause. I know most here dont like the bio balls but they are widely used here in LFS's and in the Chicago Shed Aquarium. Seems to work for them so what the heck? this is like the 3rd time this week I find myself talking about bio balls , you would think I was selling them or something
P.S. the aqua scape looks good
