Submersible Pump ???'s

I have a CA3000 pump that operates the protein skimmer of my sump.....
The last month it has not been skimming so great...UNLESS.....I take the pump out....take it apart...or just kick it
Then it works great...BUT I do not think I should have to beat my pump up weekly

SOOOOO I am thinking of getting another one...JIC....It dies.....OR to replace it and save this one for an emergency.
Attachment 242218
This is what the CA3000 looks like....SO I can't use a mag cause it has only one outlet

Just noticed Amazon sells them for $40 LOL....Does anyone have any experience with these pumps
ARE THEY JUNK?? ANY suggestions on a different replacement maybe????

I'm confused. The mag only has 1 outlet. I only see one outlet on that pump.

I worded it wrong I guess.....The mag has one outlet...and one inlet...that you can put a hose on either you know....I guess you'd call them male ends
the CA3000...has one outlet for a hose (male), and the intake part goes thru the end with the slats

Yes, but you don't have to put a hose in the inlet of the mag. You could put a sponge over it! Does that help?
I don't know anything about the pump you have. I know mag's are great!

LOL...Yeah I like the mags too.....IDK anything about the CA either....it came with the setup...up to recently it worked great

DUHHHHHH....IDK what I was thinking....of course you could add a sponge or nothing for that matter LOL
BUTTTTT.....How important is matching them EXACTLY as far as gph and everything....

I'm not sure! I would try to get as close as possible to the same gph, but maybe you should wait for a better opinion!
I would def. put some sort of guard over the intake, as I would be afraid of smaller fish being sucked in!

Matching the new pump is important to a degree. If it is to large the skimmer will be just as inefficient as a skimmer with to small a pump. Try to match it as close as possible

LOL....There are no fish down in the protein skimmer section of the sump :)
BUT....a cover may be a good idea to keep debris out

Oops! For some reason, I thought your skimmer was a HOB!

It's time for a new impeller. It's impossible for these things to last forever. It's a piece of plastic (the blades) cast or pressed into a magnet. After __ hours of use, the blades wear, and it starts to vibrate and eventually the whole thing sits offcenter enough it needs some 'assistance' to start spinning again.

Thanks....I'll check into that....I did take it apart last night, and it looked okay

Don't wait for the current one to fail. You may cause other problems. Replace it then work on the other on to get it back up to specs. By the way don't run it dry, bad thing to do to a submersible pump.
Just my $0.02
