Sweat's journey begins

No real update.
I was happy to see the start of diatoms but now I don't like them so much. Hopefully they will go away soon.
I saw pods in my chaeto today and liked it. Lol. But there is some red and bubbles. Should I be concerned?

I see them in my sump too but I'm not really concerned. I just shake then off every week.

I'm still learning and slowly building to my goal.
I ordered a few snails and empty shells from reef cleaners. I have read he puts a few extras in the order. I recieved almost double what I ordered and a few cool looking empty shells.
I had a large brown algae/diatom bloom which is almost gone now. I'm waiting on the green algae to arrive now. Tests this morning had ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate at 0. PH was 8.2. My chaeto is growing and I am seeing lots of pods.
Tank still looks empty but I'm slowly working on my goals.

I just read through your build and must say, I love your aqua scaping, turned out really good! Great build! Love the hob refugium too, very cool set up!
If I could offer some advice, take your time with stocking the tank. Looks like a lot of base rock, will take some time for it to become live, too much bio load could give you problems.
Awesome your family is also enjoying it with you, you are lucky,my family runs and hides when I go to the lfs, but they do enjoy the tanks at home!

Thanks!
Bubblegurl it is all baserock and I plan on stocking it very slowly. This is a project I want to last many years. It is hard to tell the family that we cant add anything else yet though.

I think the snails have started it for me Sip.
My only friend with an established tank is about to do his first water change in several months. I am trying to get him back on track. lol
I think I honestly know more than him as a complete noob. I visited him today at his business and he has ordered a UV sterilizer. I told him to get a protein skimmer but he doesnt listen very well but he has more disposable money than me. He crashed a 300 gallon tank and now has a 125 gallon with algae problems and a chocolate chip starfish outbreak. I will talk to him again and hopefully help him get back on track this weekend and maybe get a few goodies from him. His tank is mostly mushrooms and softies but in poor condition in my standards.
I spent more time than money because I have a few other hobbies. This month has a blue moon and an extra paycheck that WILL help fund a new transmission for my car and hopefully some new additions to tank when it is time.

lmbo some people are stubborn like that. What can we do? Can't abandon friends lol, he will come around and thank you in the end.

He is just as stubborn as I am. Lol. He has proven that you can have a reef tank with very poor water conditions. But he also lost a huge amount of money when his 300 gallon crashed.
I would enjoy helping him get it back on track. It would hopefully teach me something. I got some pics of his tank the last time I was at his house. It has potential if he will take better care of it.

Maybe he will let me help him this weekend. If he says he wants to use tap water I will slap him. He just got his 4th degree black belt so I might get beat up pretty bad. Lol

lol, all softies any ways. Tell him to try that with color sticks and that blue tang doesn't look too hot.

Bahahaha must be a noob... Who fills a big tank (or any tank) with damsels. Lol maybe headless do water changes because his hands turn into fish snacks... :rotfl: it's not funny but this is so sad I have to laugh... Imagine what some of us could do with his extra $$... It's be awesome and damsel free...

My thoughts too but he likes the damsels for some reason. He has never claimed to be smart. Lol
The Brown is gone from my tank with only a little film algae on the back wall. Now the next colors are beginning. I'm not sure why I put these small rocks here but I guess it worked out.

I'm getting some lime green spots in the tank. I'm not sure if its good yet but the snails aren't eating it.

definitely coraline. :)
First, it'll be that bright green.
Then it'll progress to a light purple,
into a Deep, dark purple.
Sometimes after that you'll get a real intense pink. My tanks are just now starting to get that. And they have been set up for a long time.
What about the small rocks? Are you saying you don't know why you put them in that small area? Is that a back chamber or a sump or something?
That's okay. It's good. That will be more live rock for you to hold micro critters, areas for extra bioload processing, without crowding the Display tank. It's "Live Rock Rubble" and a lot of people do that. That way, you have more room in the DT for more/bigger fish, but that same amount of LR in the tank. :) It's a smart idea, IMO.
I dk if it matters what chamber of the sump it's in... someone might chime in and say that one area is better than another.
Lookin' good.
Ps I now see it's a sump.

the rubble rocks are in the overflow are of my hob fuge. I was just saying Im not sure why I put them there instead of in the larger part of the refugium like the other smallish rocks. These are the smallest rocks though. They were the only rocks to get hair algae on them and the first to get some purple.
But ummm yeah, I knew what I was doing. lol.

man I wish mine grew on my overflow rather than everything else. I can never seem to get mine covered in anything... lol They're always plastic and unnatural looking.
