taking a new direction

Ammonia and nitrite came down to 0 last night. Did a water change and started mixing another to either get the nitrates down to zero (if there's any left after the water change from yesterday) or to fill the QT.

So, what are you going to order?
I ordered:
20 astrea snails
20 nassarius snails
10 nerite snails
5 peppermint shrimp
5 green chromis
3 disbar anthias
1 bottle of pods
1 korallia 425 (for fuge)
1 MP10w ES
I was going to order the 3 YT instead of the chromis and anthias but they were out of stock this morning. I figure that I should probably get the 3 YT from a LFS that has them in one tank already to make it easier on me. Scheduled delivery is wednesday, so I am going to move the few inverts from the 30B that are still in there and clean that tank up for it to be the QT.

I also went ahead yesterday and treated myself to some new wheels:

It's a 2013 Specialized TriCross and it is seksy.

Thanks man! I'll get the lights in a few months. I'm afraid that if I were to get them now I would be too tempted to put corals in the tank and it's too soon for that. I'm not going to put any corals in until the 6 month mark, so around xmas. It'll be perfect timing bc that's when two of my favorite frag swaps take place.

It is a pretty hefty CUC. But I figure with the different kind of snails (even though they have similar diets they are different sizes) and with the heavy feeding that I will be doing with anthias and tangs, the snails should do well.

I tore down the 30B last night and cleaned the tank up. I have a few more coats of paint to put on the bottom and some equipment to clean as well. I got an e-mail yesterday about the calcium reactor pump being shipped. It is scheduled for delivery on Thursday.

Since I am a pic junkie:
This is where the QT is at right now. I'm going to go pick up some vinegar and clean the equipment while the last coat dries. One thing that drove me nuts about this tank was that I never took the time to organize the wires (the few that there are). Having an open stand like this makes getting that 'clean look' a little more difficult. Maybe another trip to Home depot is in my cards for the day.

QT up and running!

The white bucket has saltwater mixing in it which will be a continuous thing. It will be mixed to 1.023 and if I need to do hypo at any point adding some fresh water will be a snap. This way I will always have a water change ready since the tank lacks biological filtration (with the exception of a sponge I have in the fuge of the main tank for now).
The orange bucket is the skimmer cup drain bucket.

I always try to buy extra and then just return what I don't use.
Luckily I live less than a mile from a Home Depot and only a few miles from Lowes. My problem starts with not knowing what kind of parts are available. So when I go to pick stuff up and I see something I've never seen before that would improve on my design it changes a lot of the game plan. I'm getting better with that though, the more I do it.
A while ago I was thinking about getting an automatic feeder and reading through Meowzer's active thread got me wanting one again, especially since I would like a bunch of anthias in my tank. I don't know how that would work with the coast to coast, though?

My order came in (at least most of it) and the fish look okay. I'm drip acclimating them now. The peppermint shrimp I ordered are pretty small, which is fine with me, and one of them has an isopod parasite- no big deal. The only problem I really have is that the fedex shipment notification online said one package and there was no vortech in the package that I received. The Koralia that I ordered was in the box, though. I've put several calls into SWF.com over the last week, today included, and I'm learning that their customer service isn't the best in the world.

Bummer!!
It is what it is. I shot them an e-mail a few hours ago but it was too late to expect a reply tonight. I noticed on the 'Contact Us' page it does say that the best way to get in touch is via e-mail. I'm sure the MP10 will get here sooner than later. The thing that bothers me is the not knowing where a (roughly) $300 purchase is. Also, since I had no reason to not expect the vortech, I removed the canopy and my light so that I could access the back of the tank and had a buddy swing by to help me place it. Oh well. Hopefully it will be here tomorrow.
So far the fish are doing okay. The only one I'm concerned about is the male anthias. He has a small mark on his side and has been swimming vertically in the corner at the water line. I'm just going to attribute that to stress for now and I'll leave the lights off for the rest of the night. Boy these anthias have beautiful colors. I sure hope they all make it.
I have some pretty big bare spots in my sand bed in the front of my tank that I'm sure are going to only get worse when the 3rd vortech is added. I have a bucket with rubble in it and I think I'm going to smash the heck out of it to make it more like pebbles and hopefully that will stay put.

I'm curious to see how your anthias do in the tank. I'm assuming you have two females and one male? Which species did you get?
I'm considering getting a group of 5 in my tank. Not sure yet though still reading about them.
