I'm heading out for the weekend. Hopefully on Monday the tank will be ready for a water change so I can get to workin on the QT and order up some livestock.

Was going to place an order but some of the things I wanted to order are out of stock so I added my name to the wait list. Depending on how this wait list affects the price of the 'on sale' things I wanted to order I might not see a reason to order from here. Obviously price was a huge factor in deciding to try online ordering, so I will have to see what SWF.com says in response to my question.
I got home a little later than I had planned so I didn't get anything done w/ the 30B yet.

I'm still getting nitrite readings that haven't moved in the last few days. I am grateful that I was unable to place that order. I guess I should have expected that, being that the tank has only been running for 2 1/2 weeks.
I was strongly considering buying an Apex Jr the other day but just couldn't justify it with other equipment purchases that are needed. I tracked down a replacement pump for my calcium reactor and put a call in to the company that has them in stock just to make sure it's the correct model number. I am also going to add a Koralia 1 and a bottle of pods to my online order. A Koralia 1 should be enough for the fuge, yes?

I think you should be fine with a Koralia 1 for the fuge. I don't think you want a ton of flow down there.
An aquarium controller is a nice piece of equipment... Is is needed??? Depends. Once you have this tank stocked up, it really is an insurance policy. If you have a lot of expensive fish and coral in the tank a controller can give you a lot of peace of mind.
I am saving up for the Apex as well. But other little things keep draining the fund. Its tough to drop that much money all at once.

I think I will revisit the idea of a controller once I have this calcium reactor working and LED's on the tank. Right now the LED's I plan on getting (Reefbreeders) are not even controllable, but I promised myself that I wouldn't put corals in the tank until I get the LED's and also that I wouldn't get LED's until the tank is 6 months old. The good news about that: I will be ready for corals just in time for my favorite two frag swaps

I just want a lot of shrimp and crabs (not hermit crabs). Yeah, 3 yellows in a 125: do you see a problem with this?
Just have to ask why no hermit crabs?.... I thought they were beneficial.
I like your rock layout also, I'm trying to do something other than a wall of rock that I did in my last tank....
Pretty sure I'm going to steal ideas from everyone's setups

You mentioned important equipment decisions??? Th Apex IMHO is more important than the CA reactor at this stage of the game.

I know I can offer empty shells but I've never been big on having hermit crabs in my tanks for some reason. That being said, I'm not going to order as many emeralds/ porcelain crabs as I had originally planned.

That's how I got the idea of a two island aquascape. Come to think of it that's how I've gotten every idea I've had for my tank. There's a little bit of everyones tanks' sitting in my fish room.

I definitely don't need a calcium reactor any time soon.I think part of the reason I'm not sure about ordering one right now is that 1) I haven't really done the research on controllers that I feel that I should do before making a choice- I have no idea about which one I would prefer or what model, and 2) the owner of the coffee shop across the street gave me the password to their business wifi (not guest access) so I haven't had internet service to my actual house for like a year. I like not having that bill and since I wouldn't be able to run a cable to the controller I would be missing on a lot of the benefits of having one. It's something I'm interested in, especially once I start putting corals in the tank, but for now I don't see much of a point- I don't have much to control and I can't check my system when I'm out of town.
I did order the replacement pump for my calcium reactor today. Hopefully I will be able to get it running properly. No hurry though.

Controllers come down to how tech savy you are. Plug and play pound for pound the Apex. Profilux is nice but price.
You have internet access from your neighbor so a gaming adapter should work on the Apex. You have access by you phone to monitor and control.
So ues it's doable IMHO. I wouldn't however tiemoney into the Apex Jr. At some point to will add on to the system only to realize it will cost you more in the end. Spend the money upfront and be ready to roll. Ask Snake!!!!

Lol. I rarely get a wad of cash to spend. I had to get what i had a budget for at the time. I wish i had gone with the full Apex, yes. But thr money just wasnt there. Besides, i am finig it difficult to find more than four things that i actually need plugged into my apex jr anyways.

For 29 years old, I'm not a very tech savvy dude. All the talk of modules, AquaBus ports, etc., on their site went over my head quickly. I will have to check out gaming adapters. I will have to look into the contollers themselves more. Maybe I just don't know enough about them to see a real need for one, especially at this stage of the game.

Was considering adding a MP10w ES to the center rear wall of my tank. I have a dead zone b/w the islands of my rock work. Since the tank is only 18" wide I figure the MP10 will do just fine. Any thoughts?

An mp10 would do some justice for sure. How tall is the tank 24"? Ime you will prob need to turn it down because it will move your sand bed in the front

It's a 125: only 18" from front to back. I'm already experiencing bare spots- I will have to either adjust the placement of the vortechs I already have, or add in some coarser grained substrate.
Edit: The tank is only 23" tall.

Nitrite came down from 1.0 ppm to 0.5 ppm. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can place an order on monday!
