Hi all,
Welcome to the new hobbiests, to the new visitors, and to the vast number of contributing members on this great information gathering site!

I want to begin by saying I want to keep this site as a source of information for new & experienced hobbiests. I am beginning to see more and more flaming and harassment directed toward hobbiests that stray away from what is considered "the norm". I want to discourage this type of behavior.
There is a big difference between attempting to inform a fellow hobbiest and ridiculing and harassing them. In the past I have simply deleted posts, given warnings, locked threads, etc. Well, I believe I've given out enough warnings. From now on when I see the "Tang Police" or anyone else going beyond trying to help a new hobbiest I will be passing out infractions. Lots of them. I do not want people to be afraid of retaliation when the come here with problems. We are NOT here to judge how people treat their pets. We are here to inform and help hobbiests.
Many of you will be rather upset with me rather quickly because I am not longer going to be shy about handing out infractions.
You have been warned.

So in the past I have been using this to kind of head off those specific tang bashings and calm down the flaming.

Does this mean that it is no longer acceptable for me to do so?

If the only way you can pass on your experience is to flame or demean people asking for advice, I don't see that as a loss.

There are enough problems keeping threads from veering off on multiple tangents with out personal infighting. And I will be the first to admit I am guilty of that infraction.
Bang I think “Play by the rules or suffer the consequences” is fair no matter what your hobby level. You have given me a wake up call. Thank you

A loving name given to people that come on and berate new people that put Tang's into tanks that are too small to keep them in.

Many of us that have been here a while have gotten very leery of people with low post counts that ask these kinds of questions.
Lately, there have been a lot of newcomers on the boards that ask questions, then argue the answers, as if they really didn't want an answer, just an argument. So people tend to stay away. It's not your fault.
Bang isn't saying that the questions should not be asked or answered though, he's just sick of watching it devolve into a flame war - which it usually does - and IMO he wants to see this board continue to be a place where people are willing to ask questions and where people are willing to answer them. It's gotten really bad...
To answer your question since you didn't get a reply in the other thread, is it possible? Sure. Should you? I personally have tried it and have had back results. Enough said.

and this is why I don't even bother many times. Because I'll see I have 2 or 3 tangs that will only grow to the size of the tank. I cringe to point out, that is not the smartest thing you've ever said or done. Because I'll get lambasted by being called the Tang Police. So I kind of avoid it.
I think your statement is fair, when dealing with sincere hobbyists searching for knowledge. However, I do think it should be allied the other way around as well.
