First off, I completely agree with the jury, that Zimmerman was not guilty of second degree murder. There is no way he went out with malicious intent, planning to kill Martin.
However, I also feel like Zimmerman has to take some of the blame. He made several bad choices that led to the end result. Calling the police should have been the end of it, but he chose to do more. Not only is that a stupid choice to lurk in the shadows following the kid, but it's a really bad decision when you are carrying a weapon. Was he racially profiling? Probably so, but if the shoe fits...
I think there needs to be some sort of laws put into place that prevent this from happening again. Whether its a "stalking" provision, or whatever. Also, when a 911 dispatcher tells you not to do something, you should probably listen.
In the end, I think what he gets is exactly what he deserves. While he won't spend the rest of his life in prison, he will live it being constantly harassed, and more than likely he is going to lose his shirt in civil court. The moral of the story is, if you have a weapon, you need to make better decisions, and think what "might" happen in the worst case scenario. I know if I had my pistol on me, there was no way I was going to tail that kid, just in the case the worst happened, and in this case, it did...
