Love your avatar btw!
I hate my life -- being forced to eat shrimp and all

thanks cranberry for the info
Im curious as to weather I can get fresh seafood being away from the shore %%
I went to the biggest grocery we have the other day and they have all frozen stuff, there was some shrimp that didn't list that it had salt but its still frozen, is that ok -- or does the "fat not freezing the same" thing that you brought up make it not good? or the freeze guard thing?
there was some "all natural" frozen shrimp but it was cooked and frozen in water but my understanding is don't feed cooked.... right?
I think I'll just stick with the frozen cubes and be done with it
but... I do have a freezer full of seafood though.... not for the fish

We may be related... LOL. I have a whole sector of family in Corner Brook. Thinking of east coast Canada makes me want lobster.
I'm still looking into this.... it was too crazy at work last night.

dangit, I have been feeding my eel and lion and now even my blue throat frozen shrimp. I have even bought some scallops to feed them.

You need to go up to Newfoundland and PEI/Nova Scotia area to have REAL lobster.
When I would go home for vacations my Uncle would get in his boat and run out in the harbor and grab a few for me.
I have 2 more peeps I am going to ask about the glazing.

Thanks....I am SOOOOO confused. I have always been told that the frozen shell on shrimp is ok...now I am hearing different, the scallops list the ingredients as 100% scallops, and yet that may not be correct either
OMG....Next weekend my husband and I are going to p a r i s Texas, I think they have a fresh seafood dept there, if I but the stuff there....how do I know it has nothing on it

You know what.... I think we have to do the best we can do and leave it at that sometimes. Maybe we need to pick the best out of what is available. One thing about advise is it has to be doable.... easily doable. Ya make it too hard and peeps will start ignoring ya.
The shell on the shrimp is ESSENTIAL. I feed small pieces to the lion and scorps so the shell does not stay on, so I just cut off a piece and thread it on the stick with the meat. I'm grinding some up to put it in my vitamin jellies I'm making for them (IF SOMEONE TELLS ME ALL THEY KNOW ABOUT SETTING GELATIN... IN THE FISH ONLY FORUM :) So yes, feed your shells, I'm sure there are great minerals in there.
P.aris Texas huh.... fresh is great... if it's really fresh. If it comes from the Gulf, I'm sure it is pretty fresh. But like here, if it says "Fresh from the Atlantic".... it really can't be THAT fresh, or you're at least leaving it to chance that they have taken care of it properly.
But are you just talking mollusks Meowy?
I honestly can't imagine them not listing preservatives.

I would think it would have to be listed. For example, the number two sulfite allergy is Sodium Tripolyphosphate.... we even have to list if nuts are use in the same plant as other nut-free foods. I can't imagine we wouldn't be required to list other things.

So...if it says Ingredients: 100% scallops
OR
Ingredients: Scallops and water
Am I ok??/

K, there are a lot of frozen packaged scallops, for example, that are preservative free. Those that list it... have it. Those that don't I would assume does not.
Those that do not have the preservative are frozen pretty quickly on boats. I bet the ones with preservatives are those that are not frozen immediately.
We are getting closer to the answer...... :) But now I have to go to work... dang it.

I went on a mission today and went to every grocery I could think of
Every single one had frozen seafood not fresh and all the shrimp had salt and sodium tryhocjklskhlgeakjgl;kejgaej or what ever it is
the only frozen seafood I found that didn't have the salt and sodium was scallops
