the only frozen seafood I found that didn't have the salt and sodium was scallops
LOL...The "Unfrozen" shrimp at my grocery store ( a Super Walmart..LOL) was marked....previously frozen
...and it had all those wierd ingredients in it

looks like us land lubbers are screwed

I am in Florida and having a hard time at the moment as well. I found some "fresh" shrimp yesterday and it stated that it was previously frozen as well

seek out Key West 'Pinks' at your better fish markets

Walmart sells a seafood mix that's just raw meat: squid shrimp etc. It's good.
If you're going to use it for cycling--mine were for puffer food--I'd suggest either putting actual ammonia in. I'm reading a book on marine systems and they say the shrimp method isn't very effective, though I have one in my tank.
Where in FL are you? No Publix or anything with raw shrimp?

do you have a whole foods market in the area
We went there the weekend. OMG! It was seafood heaven. And we actually had a very long discussion with the deli guy and I tell ya.... they know their stuff. They are definitely trained. We had one question he could answer, picked up the phone and in 2 seconds had it. I was very impressed.

There's nothing wrong with the shrimp method. I actually use fish with fishing line suspended in the water. I have 12 current tanks plus many in the past that says it works. I also use the ammonia method, so I'm not saying it doesn't work....
For my 100g volitan tank I will use ammonia because I need to really know what the filtration can handle before I plunk a 12" fish down in there all at once.
But I really would love to hear some points of their argument.

Here in Connecticut I either go to Stop & Shop or Shaw's sea food department and buy raw shrimp ,freeze it, cut a chunk, remove the shell, rinse with salt water, cut into smaller pieces, and feed it to the fish.
