Not all 20 somethings are stupid. There are still a few of us out there who know how to spell even five letter words. Right or wront? There is hope!

Besides that, do you expect a 20 something behind a counter at mcdonalds with a backwards cap and boxers showing to be a spelling bee champion or the next famous mathematician? I go to mcdonalds etc. and expect my order to be wrong anyway.
Ignorance and stupidity is everywhere. Its not just "these days" but all throughout history. You have those that know and have and those that dont. Im glad i belong to the former.

Yeah, I checked up in the southern dictionary and it is perfectly allowable for this discombobulation of words to occur without people calling you stupid for it. So it was not an ignorant comment on Seth's part. It's just that the boys down here don't tell it that way is all.
People haven't changed. There are just some things in the more traditional forms of teaching from of our past that are being lost on this new age in light other forms or ways of communicating. A lot more influences out there. Plus things are getting cramped on this planet so we bump into a lot of people folks who are different than our self's a lot more often. Even in C.Space where a lot of folks have grown into spending a lot of their time here...
It's a lot. For real!

LOL...I thought he did it on purpose.
You can't blame the McDonalds folks for getting your order wrong...those little pictures are hard to tell if the burger has cheese on it or not....

... depends on what part of the country your from. lol
We can go on and on with little differences and grammar mistakes. I was never an English major. However, I have come to accept "text speak" as a modern version of English, that may be here to stay.
Please don't take this the wrong way, but as someone that is studying to be a teacher you SHOULD be up on your spelling and grammar. Even though English isn't your major you are going to lose a ton of respect in the classroom if one smart kid picks up on grammatical errors. I know I would have had zero respect for a teacher or professor if they didn't have the proper command of the language.

I know exactly what DJ means...at 20-something I sure as heck knew how to spell and my grammar was pretty spot-on. Granted, as an old dood, I do fall into "forum speak" and use acronyms and abbreviations, but nowadays, you come across peeps who can't even figure out 10% by moving the decimal...this happened to me once. The calculator died, and the person was lost trying to give me the 10% off sale price on something.

How much respect is lost by a broken sarcasm meter?

The other day I was checking out and the cashier asked if I wanted to round up to the nearest dollar for a charity donation. The bill was $something.20. She had to pull out a "round-up" chart to determine that $0.80 needed to go into the charity bucket. A chart, an honest to goodness cardboard chart that showed the cents on the bill across from the amount to donate when rounding up to a dollar.

i think the problem is the way technology has grew .it makes it so easy for younger generations not having to think. like now at the store the machine spits out the change in stead of them counting it.most everything electronic uses pics or icons instead of wording.

I think you guys are over worrying about this stuff. It wont be long now before all newborns will be equiped with computer chips in thier brains so they will all be perfect spellers and mathmaticians.
Humanity will be just fine. :)

Sure humanity will be fine but when those resumes go across my desk they just keep right on going into the trash.
