don't want to be too personal, but she lost her plug yesterday...
If she hasn't gone into labor yet and has already broke her water then the vaginal birth will be long and painful; I know that is the last thing that you want to hear, but a dry birth will hurt big time. Be ready. They will probably induce her soon.

Congratulations!!!!
I have 2 yr old identical twin girls and luckily I didn't have morning sickness at all, but had the worst kind heartburn the whole 38 weeks. UGH! I hope your wife doesn't get that on top of morning sickness.
All the best!!!

well, wifey woke me up at 3 this morning. she'd been having contractions every 45 seconds, every 4-5 mins, for about 2 hours.
so i ran around like a chicken with my head chopped off, my heart was beating a mile a minute.
got her to the hospital...
nothing
BAH false labor!
they did though say that they'd see us again by the end of the weekend.
Sorry I haven't read the whole thread, but how far along is she? I was on pre-term labor from 28 weeks on, countless times in L&D for contractions. I think my husband kept count the times we left in the middle of the night... hehehe I carried our twins to 38 weeks even though the predictions from the doctors and nurses was max 32 weeks.
Have you bags packed!

To all the women who have experienced child birth and especially the ones that have had a very tough labor and delivery, my apologies ahead of time..
Our doctor told us that it is common for the first child you have to be late...and for the birth to be very difficult. I can say that is not always the case, our daughter came 3 weeks early. And even though she knew she was in labor she had no idea she was as far along as she was. So, when we got to the hospital she sat in triage for 4 hours we got a room and the actual delivery from time to push to baby out was about 20 minutes. It was like she got shot out of a cannon.... LOL but seriously it was very quick and not a lot of pain invlolved. But from what I hear that is rare... All I can say is I hope the same for you guys, but mostly a health baby no matter how she gets here. GOOD LUCK....

she's at 37 weeks.
a friend of ours just had her baby, and she described the prelabor contractions as a fluttering in her stomach at first, then 6? hrs later baby born.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!

U guys are getting SO close....how exciting!!!!!!
Are you ready for her arrival????
I was paniced up until we actually got home with him and then things just fell in place as you go along!!!
Best wishes to you!!!!

she had her weekly visit today at the drs office. it seems her amniotic fluid level has gone down since last wednesday, so the dr said "no more work for you, come back friday" if the level has gone down more, they will induce her.

Induction is horrible! Forced contractions are so much stronger than natural labor contractions. I had it with my son years and years ago... no fun at all. Then again I didn't like the pain after C-section either :)

i was iduced with my first 2 weeks overdue- ugh. as i remember it seems the smaller contractions went by really fast and the big contractions lasted for hours couldve been the pain though
is she going to get an epidural? had that twice and au naturale for the last(i do not recommend this lol ouch) a first child is going to be a long labor though take a tennis ball to rub on her back while she contracts it helps to relax the muscles and the more relaxed she is the faster the labor will be oh and pack a handheld game or some cards or something you can do together to pass the time , dont forget the camera you would be suprised how many people forget that and you know we will hunt you down if you dont post pics

oh, you know i'll post pics lol. i even have pics of the room from the false alarm.
btw, i found out last night after posting that there's possibly something wrong with the placenta. something about it is getting old? the more and more i spoke with my wife last night, the more and more i'm thinking they are just going to induce her tomorrow.
i honestly can't wait... and not just from wanting to see my baby. the past few nights have been VERY emotional, and she admits its from the hormones. but she was in complete tears from possibly being over a certain weight level (she's only gained about 37 lbs) and then last night it was the "i'm a horrible mother, i can't even go full term". but, as the sensitive and loving husband i am, i gaind HUGE browny points calming her down!!!

Placenta usually starts showing signs of getting old once a singleton pregnancy reaches 40 weeks and twin pregnancy 38 weeks. What it means is that the baby is not getting oxygen and nutrience as well as it could. If the placenta starts tearing off the side of the utero, then the doctors would perform an emergency C-section to make sure everything goes OK. Your wife would get a spinal instead of an epidural (just because spinal takes affect really fast). I had a spinal for my C-section.
Sleep now that you can! You will not be sleeping well for a good while. We got lucky with our girls as they started sleeping full nights at 4 months, had no colic etc, but the first while was tough. I was pumping milk every 3 hours around the clock, husband got back on the road (racing season started) when girls were 6 days old and I was alone with them 24/7.
Once the baby is here, tell your wife to EAT well, drink her water, sleep when the baby sleeps and let the house go. It doesn't need to be clean all the time. She needs to rest! If you can get the freezer full of dinners, that would make things even easier for you or order in. The less she has to worry about the daily routines the better it will be and hopefully she doesn't get PPD (post-partum depression). If you see any signs of that, contact her OB ASAP.
And most of all ASK QUESTIONS!
