If you can, have her sit on the couch with her legs up and tell her to get comfortable. Then bring in the baby, turn down the lights and just relax. Get her something good to eat. Chocolate always worked for me before I pumped. Do you have a lactation consultant that you can contact when you have any questions? You can also PM me and I'll give you my email and she can always ask me questions. I pumped for 11months and 11 days for my twins. They never learned to latch on well.

well, her milk came in today and due to a non latching baby, she's a tad engorged. we tried pumping a little to get her active and so Kaitlyn doesn't have to work so hard, and that works a little.
my main issue right now besides feeding is swaddling... this little girl gets out of any cocoon you can put her in.

You gotta get this

It's a Kiddopotamus Swaddle Blanket and has velcro in it. My little buggers couldn't get out of it until they were a few months old :lol

For the engorgement, tell her to use warm compresses and *hang* her b o o b s down to *loosen up* the milk.

last night was tough. i'm very glad i don't have to work today. the getting up every few hours or minutes really messed me up sleepwise, and now i know what we're in for :)
kaitlyn has taken to BF'ing a lot more and now only one is engorged, but wifey is pumping quite a bit out and we're going to use that as supplemental food with some (very little) formula mixed in, just to make sure shes getting enough nutrition to pass the billirubin test.
we talked to my sister in oregon--she's a BF guru (whips em out while talking to you LOL) and a tad less intimidating than talking to a stranger walking through the nursery. spiderwoman thank you for your offer, if need be we'll go that route as well :)

nah, with all the things she has to do and has gone through, changing a few or all of the diapers is anything a loving/caring husband SHOULD do. you'll know the feeling :)

sounds like she is doing fine. relax, things will settle in. Remember, kaitlyn can and will react to you and your wife. she can tell that you are upset or nervous.

I was just going to say what TQ did. Relax and enjoy this time. Things are going to be OK. If she does not BF it is not the worst thing in the world. Both of our were raised on formula. That way you can do the middle of the night feedings also.

What ever works for you, you need to go by that. You are going to get as many different advice than there are people giving them. There is no one right way of doing things :)

:)
today's going a LOT better. wifey is sleeping, baby is nursing much better :)
we introduced our dog to kaitlyn today :) he's very happy to have a new pack member, even licked her a bunch of times. he was VERY concerned about her while she was crying during a diaper change, and doesn't understand why the basinet is vibrating and can't figure out why he can't go up and snuggle with her :) but, he is guarding her basinet, keeping a watchful eye on this little squirmy thing he probably doesn't quite understand yet hehe.

We want more pictures.

Dogs and kids, love it. mine are older now, but my shepard still sleeps at the foot of my daughters bed.
