I feel like I am beating a dead horse but here are a couple that I will not look at:
What tang if any can I put in a _________(fill in the blank)
What is the minimum tank size for a tang?
***** this, ***** that...come on people there are a TON of ***** threads out there, I'm sure everyone can come to a gernal consensus(sp) on *****. If you want to bash, why do you even go there after you have read(or maybe not) all the threads on ***** here.
Sorry, but I had to join in.

Exactly if you get tired of seeing the same questions asked over and over again stay out of the forum....Actually I find it rather refreshing to see the questions.....It sometimes makes me test my own knowledge, or better yet it makes me go pic up a book if I'm fuzzy on the subject.....We all can learn and at some point you have some much going through your mind you do forget and even though those questions might be repetitive, we can all use a refresher from time to time......

Honestly I think the thread is rather rude..............should be removed IMO.....I guess we sometimes forget or don't do searches and ask repetitive questions.........

Well, I can't say I mind repetitive questions being posted, but I am less inclined to answer, "I have ich and what can I do about it. I don't have a QT". I've tried to post a lot of general info in the Disease Forum, including about ich, in the stickies posted at the top of the forum, yet ich questions pop up just about around the clock.
Maybe people just want personalized help, I guess, but how many ways can I say the same thing over and over, day in, day out? :declare: LOL

New hobbyists should never, ever feel stupid. If anything, this forum is for the new or less experienced hobbyist. Who better to help, then the aquarist just getting started?
We are here to learn and exchange information. I think most people want to help, otherwise, why spend time here? Of course, there are a few rude people who just want to make you feel like a feeder fish. Its a pretty big forum, with a lot of people visiting everyday, mostly good people, with a few exceptions.
If I know someone is new, I try to take more time with them in helping them out, especially if they show that they are willing to learn and listen. However, when someone prefaces a request for help with, "I really don't have time to do such and such or I don't feel like reading everything on the forum so can you just quickly tell me that answer", then that just says you are not a serious hobbyist and really shouldn't be keeping tanks.
Also, key to success in gaining help from forums is do the research and come to the forum with questions that show that you have picked up a book or two, or have spend some time in the Archives or listening to more knowledgeable members. New hobbyist starting now are so very lucky to have free and valuable info right at their fingertips via the various hobby forums (like this one and others) as well as a wealth of info just on the Internet. When I started out, the learning curve was in "The School of Trail and Error" where the only source of info was a few expensive books and the guy at the LFS.
As I said, everyone is welcome to ask questions here. And you are also invited to do all the research you want using the tools and information available here for free.

LOL I wouldn't feel so bad. I have had tanks all my life including some marine tanks prior to the whole LR/reef thing.
Old school habits are tough to break and in regards to ick I just recently got schooled in this area myself. Back in the day the belief was every tank had parasites and the most common method of cure was euthanasia due to the additional belief that treatment rarely worked.
I have a tang right now that is vary glad people on this forum were able to teach an old dog a new trick.
On a side note a sticky at the top of the new hobbyist section explaining how to use the search function could go a long way in avoiding repeated topics/questions

OOOOOOOOOH boy....if I had followed the first marine book I read Lord have mercy. I still keep it to help friends who are new to the hobby. The book recommended Bleaching your live rock over night in regular BLEACH!!!! and then put it into your tank:scared:

You know what I am tired of seeing??
YOU LONG TIME MEMBERS SO BE RUDE
As a newbie, I have found this site full of aragant hobbyist, not all... but there is a large handful.
This post in the "newbie" form is a perfect example
instead of flaming the new members for asking honest questions, why not make a intro. thread in this form advising us newbies that we can use the search feature to research our quesstions
I have started to use it and I am so happy I do not have to post anymore only to get disscoraging responses from long time hobbyist that think they are better than me just because the have more experance.
I will not be coming back to this site - Nor will order off this site.
There are lots of great sites on-line that have of nice- helpfull -friendly hobbyist.

If you are worried about scaring em off don't worry. I've had a sw tank for 4 months. and I think this thread is dang funny. The funniest question I've seen was can you use table salt for salt in your tank.

Honestly nobody wants to see you go......I agree with you that this thread is rather inappropriate and shouldn't have been done or let go.....Or as said earlier if you don't like the questions stay out of the forum....I actually find it refreshing, because I may have been in the hobby for a bit, but I actually forget more than I remember and those "so called questions" might trigger something in someones mind.......
Alot of the "old timers" don't mean to be rude or aren't being rude.....I think alot is misunderstood, by how things are typed......

The only thing I am tired of seeing is people flaming newbies for asking 'stupid' questions.
Wouldn't you actually rather them ask? Or would you rather them come to us AFTER they mess the tank up and kill a few fish?
I'm so happy that people ask us for help!
