    Acropora color?

I would keep the 250W MH and use a 10K bulb and add some VHO. That would rock as long as you can keep the heat down on a 45 gallon. My 75 has 2 175W MH and 4 110W VHO. Shrooms to acro are growing. Just gotta let stuff adjust and place it correctly.

    tank temp, 75 ok?

What I was refering to is that my coral are growing too much. I have a mushroom rock that is all frags and a bunch of 4 inch green montiporah that I am about ready to throw away. It is growing like a weed. I have no good lfs to trade with so I want to give it away instead of throw it away. My...

    Acropora color?

Lighting and water quality make a difference in the color of sps. I am not saying that your water is bad but that different chemistry occures in each tank thus adding varibles. If it is getting brown then I would be looking at getting the sps a bit more light. I have had an acro take 3 months...

    tank temp, 75 ok?

As Ban Guy is suggesting there are different temps in different reefs. In a few cases that would be fine but the average reef temp in the world is 82 and most people don't have tanks stocked from only one habitat. Mine is 78-83 depending how long the lights have been on.

I like marshal island rock also. More places for pods to live in than anything else I have seen.

    calcium reading

Since the tank has a very low calcium demand now it may take a couple of weeks at least for the levels to drop down. I am courious to know what your alk levels are. I would concentrate on getting the alk up and the Ca will take care of its self in the process.

    bubble algae post again

The salifert 5 ml. It is was perfect for the smaller ones that I had. I don't remember exactly what I had read but it was about the maturity of the bubble as it relates to releasing more spores. The reason I mention it is that using tweezers may pop the and release spores which is why I sucked...

    Help!!!..Aquastik epoxy to secure coral

Superglue gel works under water. If I am not careful sometimes it may take a couple of tries though. Just put a glob on the end and then hold it in place on the rock until it sets. Should be about 30 secods to a minute. The most important thing is to not wiggle your hand at all and leave your...

    bubble algae post again

Don't let them spred as they can multiply quickly under the right conditions. I got some off of some LR and it took a month to get rid of them. Water changes and constantly sucking them up with a syringe that came with a test kit. Good luck

Wil my algae bloom ever end?

I had diatoms appear about 6 months into my tanks life. They showed up for about a month then dissapeared. I couldn't figure out why they came or went. I had not made any changes in feeding or lighting for 2 months prior. I just chalked it up to my tank just settling into a groove.

Wil my algae bloom ever end?

Are they starting to decrease at all. You should be starting to see a drop off prety quick. The other posibility is that your nutients are to high and the light just made the problem visible. Reducing the lighting and buying some conch's would help a bit in the short term.

    my temp is 87* Degrees

I would get 2 4 inch fans. That should take care of the problem. Until then you need to make sure that the temp comes down a couple of degrees. Buy a cheep fan from wal-mart to move some air inside the canopy until you can get the 4 inch fans installed. BTW how far off the water are the bulbs...

    ALK and CA Question Again

I do belive that the ph affects what reading you will get as it suppresses or lifts the readings. The Ca and alk is still the most important with ph being a bit of a wild card in the mix by affecting what the maxes can be at the time. Some suggestions are: If your skimmer is in a closed cabinit...

    Lighting change

I had 14K bulbs then just switch to the 10K bulbs one month ago. Much brighter. You won't believe the difference it makes to the sps. Mine started growing noticibly faster with in 3 weeks and my leather is adjusting just fine.

    Red Slime Algae

At like the 6-7 month period I got some. I tried to treat it but the only thing that really worked was a total black out for 2-3 days. I covered it with a sheet and turned the lights out and prayed. All my coral did fine. LPS, SPS, and softies. I used the chemical agents after this for a couple...

    bubble algae?

Dinoflagellets can start off looking like what you are descriping. It is usually in a place though that has low water flow where detritus can build up. If so just use a turkey baster and blow it off every now and then. I have had my snails eat as much if not more bubble algea than my crabs.

OT what I have been up to - FREE WEBHOSTING

Hey all, long time since I have been around hear. I have been working on setting up a web server and everything that goes along with it. The good news is that I have leaned enough about linux that I can offer free web space to those who want to build their own site to display their tanks. If you...
