My Little Piece Of The Ocean... 46g Bow Front Build

Just a note about your Damsel. They are suprisingly aggressive. If you put Chromis or Cardinals or something peaceful and smaller like that in there the damsel will probably kill them. just FYI.

    I can't keep Zoa's alive!

hmm.. can you take a photo of the rest of your tank? that might help. How many T5 bulbs do you have and how big is the tank? My guess is they are getting stung by another coral at night.

    I can't keep Zoa's alive!

They should be fine in the middle of the tank under T5's.. unless you have a 48" x 4 bulbs over a 120 gallon tall tank or something. What corals are you placing them near? maybe something is stinging them at night. also, they should live without feeding.. but dosing some zooplex or something as...

Need suggestions for RO/DI water location

Thanks.. good ideas. I have a whole house humidifier already, so i'll look and see if maybe I can just add another tap right after that one. I'd prefer all of it were out of the way so I can make a whole mixing station for saltwater as well. but if I have too, the laundry room is a good idea...

    Newbie

JMO on flow.. but because you have a 65 gallon 3 foot long x 2 feet deep tank.. i personally think 4 smaller powerheads would work better than 2 large ones. I'd have 2 pointing opposite angles at slightly different heights near the top and then have 2 lower in the tank. that would be different...

Need suggestions for RO/DI water location

ah.. that's a good idea. although the wife may not be too happy with me taking up landry room space. hahahaha But that's better than anything I've thought of so far. Any other ideas?

Need suggestions for RO/DI water location

I moved recently and in my last house, we had a hose bib in the back of the garage. So it could run all winter. My new house only has outside hose bibs which need to be shut down during the winter months. Any suggestions about where and how to hook up RO/DI filter? A good 3/4 stage unit with...

    Not happy with my tank

A few things; 1) Did you test for Ammonia or Nitrites? when stuff dies it releases Ammonia and then that converts first into Nitrite. Both are much more toxic that nitrate which is the last chemical step. i'm sure you know all that.. but the presense of lots of brown algae with 0 Phosphate...

New to the hobby, planning first tank.

yeah unfortunately i think a chiller is the only option if built in fans aren't getting the job done. You could try cutting a hole and adding an additional external fan and allow some heat to escape the hood. but i would wait to see if it becomes a problem, just have a plan in place.

New to the hobby, planning first tank.

I can tell you one of the main problems you'll have and should probably think about solving ahead of time is heat. MH's with a sealed lid is going to heat up that 29g quick. I have an open 55 with MH's hovering about 7" off the water and a small 20 watt lighting my fuge in the cabinet. I'm...

    72 g non-drilled to a 55 gallon drilled reef -- lessons learned

Hi all, I haven't been on here for several years. Have kept a 72 gallon bowfront reef for 7 years, even surviving a move to a new home. This past weekend, i transfered from the 72 gallon non-drilled bowfront to a 55 gallon drilled show tank with a refugium/sump. I have some lessons learned...

    Coral help....

Short story, one of my shrimp attacked/ate a new coral i just put in yesterday. (Stylophora) It is now completely white... there are some small specs of color left but barely any. Is this coral a goner? or can it possibly heal and survive?

Peppermint shrimp attacked my new stylophora...???

The little crap head ate about 80% of the surface of the coral.. in about 5 hours. it's about 80% pure white except for the very end caps on the top of the fingers now. I'll give it a chance... but I think it's a lost cause.

Peppermint shrimp attacked my new stylophora...???

I can post a pic tomorrow... but after 5 hours.. about 80% of the coral is pure white. I have a feeling i will wake up to it being stripped clean.
