IMO for 31" you would need MH. Im not sure if the 250w are going to penetrate deep enough either. You may need to go with 400w and man do they put off the heat. And dont forget about the electric bill.

I myself am in the process of setting up a 120g.Im planning on 2 t-5s in the front and 2 t-5s in the back with 2 250w mh in the middle. This will allow me to keep anything and will also be pleasing to the eye. You could go with 6 or 8 t-5s or 2 250mh. There are so many options.

My falco hasnt went after the blood shrimp yet. They have been together for several months now. The shrimp was introduced first. I did try to add a cleaner and it didnt touch the bottom of the tank before he was gone. I have never seen him go after anything else.
