that return will be fine (use a flare end on it)... but remember... you need to make sure you're using gravity because the HOB pump and the return pump are not going to flow the exact same.. one will flow more than the other...

well there's always an allure to an itty bitty tank and if you can fix the inherent instability of one by having a huge sump by hiding it and not telling anyone... you've essentially killed 2 birds with one stone. 1) ooh ahh its itty bitty, you have cool stuff in it.. 2) less headaches because...

the best canisters run liverock in them lol... I'm sure you could pack carbon in there too if it didn't get a bunch of build up on it.

marineland is typically cheaper quality with regard to canisters... fluval is much better... eheim is even better.

I saw a perfecto perfect a lite incandescent fixture for a 5.5gallon (16inches long) for like $17 on the mountain of pets..
