moving from a sand bed to c.c.

I am honestly thinking about moving back to crushed coral for my reef tank... ever since I got a DSB I have had tons of algae problems. Although it is under control somewhat right now, it has been only with great time and expense...A UV light and everyday cleaning the glass and rocks... I can...

    Attn: Southdown Users!!!

That sand that has bigger grains, which you are referring to, will not perform the same function of a DSB will it? I am interested in this because if larger grains of sand can function as a DSB then why the southdown small sand trend? I have had my tank set up since the beginning of July and...

    Attn: Southdown Users!!!

I can tell you that I wish I had never gone to a sand bed...I always have a brown sand bed...not to mention the fact that I think the silicates in it are constantly contributing to my algae problems.... if I had to do all over again I would go with the c.c. It is much better...you can clean it...

There seems to be a hair algae epidemic

Just a note...I never had a hair algae or any algae problem when I used crushed coral...I think that the sand may have something to do with it..IMO... I purchased a 36watt UV and that has done a fab job at killing any and all algae that was free floating in the water...this helps when I clean...

    VHO and PC

I have the same tank you do...you will need the 46.5" lights because the 48" bulbs will not fit under your canopy... You can get a good icecap 660 ballast on ---- for pretty cheap with the wiring harness!!! as far as the endcaps and plastic mounting brakets you may have to go to your LFS...

    OT: Remembrance

Just another thing to think about while the 911 incident is being remembered. Soon the Congress will debate the Patroit Act II. Although Civil Liberties is not something that many of us think about very often, maybe we should also be aware of what has happened as a result of 911. One should...

    yellow tang

I have been on this board for a while and two things that will almost always incite a riot is telling people that you are putting a Yellow Tang in a 55g or that you have a clam under vho lights... In my opinion a YT is fine in that size tank...I have one in my 60g and it does just fine and I...

Anemone's - I'm a changed man! My experience with them...

for some reason my bta attaches itself to the bottom of the piece of LR that is lying on the sand bed...how it manages to squeeze in there is beyond me...during the day it extends almost like a plate and its tentacles extend outwards... THERE are no tentacles in the MIDDLE of it...I think it...

    Under Feeding Fish??

In all honesty you are not that overstocked...with that much LR and a good skimmer you are in pretty good shape in my opinion with a 75g tank... BUT I would get rid of the scotter blenny and/or the mandarin...I might also get rid of the two damsels as they are really a pain in the a^& in my...
