What to do with sump return

I'm gonna try doing this with mine. My drawing is not the best but you get the idea. I an not going to have a wave maker at this point. I will however be using lokline so I can adjust the direction of flow. I thought about usinf a SQWD but it restricted my flow to much. HTH

    fuge lighting???

The bulb I use is one I got from Wally World. It a Lights of America brand.Model#2830S Compact Flourescent Sunlight Bulb. The UPC # 7 55277 28301 3 I've been using it for about a year and my macro algae (cheato) grows like wild fire.

    Squid I'm kinda lost here.

I forgot to ask. So as for the overflow drains. The 3/4' line will go straight in the fuge or will there be a T to divert just a portion of the water to the fuge. As for the 1", that will just dump into the skimmer side. What do you suggest for the drain to go into. The bubble box I have...

    Squid I'm kinda lost here.

Well actually I forgot to put a line in. Actually it is in 2 pieces. The bottom will be straight across. The side box is structurally independent of the bottom. That way if I get the bug to go with a bigger tank, I can use the full length of bottom cabinet for the tank. Also I can upgrade...

    Squid I'm kinda lost here.

more drawing for you Here is the stand my wife wants me to build. She saw it on a post either on this forum or on another we frequent. I would like to thank that person that designed it, it's awsome. It's going to be kinda big but I will have plenty of room for plumbing, eletrical, auto top-off...

    Squid I'm kinda lost here.

Paint was very frustrating, so I did this PaintShop Pro (still frustrating but not as bad) I hope CAD design is not a pre requisite for this course. Anyway, Here are the adjustments I made to the Sump/Fuge as your suggestions. Also a very crude drawing of the closed loop. For the return pump...

    Squid I'm kinda lost here.

ok--COOL!! I've been messing with PAINT. I'll see if I can make a drawing of what I envision of the return spraybar. Also a drawing of the stand along with measurments between the MT and the Sump/fuge. This may take a bit of time. My job requires me to be on call 24/7. Seems just as I get...

    Squid I'm kinda lost here.

ok-you convinced me. So both drains will go to the sump/fuge. The 3/4" to the Fuge and the 1" to the Skimmer side. On the HOB overflow box I have now It has a 1" bulkhead. I used an adapter to so I could use 1-1/4" hose. I have a mag7 for the return and it seems to be a perfect match. Now...

    Squid I'm kinda lost here.

Squid, Pardon me while I pull my head out. **POP** It was late when I wrote that last nite and I was figuring the 2” from the measurements on the 40 breeder. OK to summarize 90 gal with one overflow 48x18x24=20736/231=879.76 For a 2” backwash 48x18x2=7.5 40 breeder: 36x18x16=10368/231=44.88...

    Squid I'm kinda lost here.

Squid. I had to search for it, but I was reading the “Plumbing 101” thread to determine how to setup my sump/fuge. I have a AG RR-90gal. I want to put a 40gal breeder under it for a fuge/sump. Since I am in the planning stages and I’m in no hurry to do this, I’m waiting to get all the...

    75 gal for $100

hmmm--most LFS around me use the $1/ gal. But I found a brand new, still in the box RR90 for $75. It was to be returned to the factory because the overflow had a small crack at the very top. I offered and they suprised me by saying "where do ya want it?"

    I have a 37 g and I would like some help ??

I have a 37 reef. I did a DYI 20L sump/refugium. The return pump is a mag7. Seems to work very well. You might also consider getting about another 10-15 lbs more LR. As far as building the sump/fuge there are several post on the subject. Also check out Plumbing 101. It's rather lengthy...

Ready to give up-losing fish again

I had a simular problem a while back. I did 3 things. 1. Cut back the length of time the lights were on. 10,000-10 hours, actiniks-12 hours. 2. Increased water flow and adjusted the flow so there were no dead spots. 3. Replaced all my light bulbs. Also make sure you have enough light in...

    live rock vacuum

Is your QT really big? Couldn't you just use a net to to fish out the rocks? I just have a terra cotta flower pot that is broken in half in mine. I just kinda situated the halves one on top of and off to the side of the other. (hmm does that make sense?) anyway my fish seem to like it.

    hatching brine shrimp

I use the 2 liter plastic pop bottles. I bought a rubber cork that fits nice and tight from the hardware store. Drilled 2 holes in the cork and inserted a short piece of rigid 3/16" tubing in one hole so that it just clears the small side of the cork ( inside of the bottle)and has about 3/4"...

How big of a refugium does a 90g tank need?

check out the "plumbing 101" thread. Squid has a fomula for figuring a fuge/ sump. that entire thread is worht the reading. I am going to use a 40 long for my 90, but this is still a work in progress.

How to frag a shroom/and keep it.

Instead of making a new thread, I thought I'd ask in this one. Also it's a good DYI (thanks Oceana) Ok--so how big should the mushroom be before ya frag it?
