    Protein skimmer recommendations

SWKid, I've got a EuroReef on one of my systems and it works well. One day, I'll take it off and go refugium only... but, til then, my EuroReef CS6-2 is good enough. You might want to look into being a crazy skimmerless refugium freak, before you dump a lot of money into a skimmer... just a...

    Monkeys

I'm assuming you're not referring to the "Sea Monkeys" I had as a kid and sometimes still feed my fish. Saron marmoratus is sometimes referred to as a Monkey Shrimp. These guys, though beautiful, are rumored to eat clams and corals.

what does it take to get coraline going

Option, give it time and you'll be working your butt of to scrape the coraline off of your tank, powerheads, etc. Patience... no need to rush as the day will come when you may investigate means of coraline reduction. As for the Calcium, I agree with the folks above. I don't know if levels that...

    Cruel Introductory Quarantine Technique

Hmmm.... Thanks for all the great replies. This board is the best! You guys have given me a lot of food for thought. I think that Beth has a point re: the cruelty aspect. I'm really excited by Jay's reply and would personally love to follow such ambitious experiments. Trey, as always, has...

    Built-In Overflow?

Built-In, without a doubt! You might also consider specifying that the overflow is in the center of the tank, in the event you have to move tthe tank to a spot where a side overflow might be exposed one day.

    Cruel Introductory Quarantine Technique

I'm expecting to get flamed for this comment, but here goes. It is sometimes better for one/few to suffer for the good of the masses. This has gotten me thinking a bit about parasites, stress and the introduction of new fish into closed environments. What if someone was to stress a fish a...

    huge bristle?help!anyone!

Wow! I can't believe someone hasn't spoken up for the Bristle worm - this being the reef group. 4" is a bit big, but doesn't sound horrible. I once had a 20L with thousands of large, visible bristle worms. That was the cleanest tank with the healthiest DSB ever. Unfortunately, my DottyBack...

    UV and ICH

SW4 is right - A UV helps, but it doesn't take the place of a Q-Tank.

    Fish for a 20gal

I've had good luck with two Oscellaris and a Royal Gramma in a 20L. That's about as much as I'd push it.

    Power outtage!!!!

IMOHO, It might be better to just buy a cheapo computer UPS system. This would run a small powerhead for a few hours or longer, dependant upon the Powerhead and power capacity of the UPS unit. Go to compUSA, or somewhere like that and give it a shot. HTH

    ICK Wipe Out

Khat, This would be an excellent time for you to buy a quarantine tank. Look at it this way - If you buy the quarantine tank, you can buy those fish sooner. Just don't add them to the main tank for about a month, as you seem to have had a pretty bad ich outbreak. But the Q tank... let it sit...

why put caulerpa in your sump

Option, There are a lot of... well... "options" with regards to macroalgae application. Primary benefits are wate reduction (Nitrates and Proshpates), a predation-free breeding ground for copepods/amphipods, a constant source of food for your herbivores/omnivores, etc. Rather that get into...

    ICK Wipe Out

Well, though I'm certainly not a wise one, here goes... 1. Can you give us some more detail as to the nature of the wipeout? How you knew it was ich? When did you first notice problems? How quickly was everyone infected? What kind of treatment did you attempt? How big is the tank? What...

    help with ick treatment!!!

Hmmmm....? i guess this reply is primarily addressed to TERRYB and TREY. I'll refer to analogies I made in an earlier post that was deleted... as, I'm sure, this one will be as well. TerryB, I mentioned a barroom brawl scenario earlier, where I felt like the guy trying to break it up. Well, I...

Please Help: Tell the Aquarium Industry!!!!!

Aquarium industry, please, please, please make us a viable and reasonably priced sump refugium. My D.I.Y. refugium sump is OK and the hang-on-the-back Aquafuge is a decent feeder refugium, but I want a commercial refugium sump. The EcoSystem model is far too small, too costly and has some...
