    Yellow Gorgonian Question

My yellow gorgon has been lifeless for about a month now - meaning I have seen no polyps emerge, and the tips of the branches are deteriorating. My question is whether or not this thing is dead or just dormant? Is there something I can do to ascertain whether is is still alive or just slowly...

    Need Heater Recommendation

Thanks for all the good advice. Ebo Jager is definitely the unanimous choice. So that is what I am going to buy.

    Mandarin

If you have even the slightest doubt that you may not have enough pods to keep a Mandarin - don't get one. I have had one starve in my tank despite my best efforts to keep it alive. Also there are hundreds of posts here from people with dead or dying Mandarin. They are very popular, but also...

    Is this good?

I have only read about bad blue hermits here. I have had them before and did not notice any problems. In my experience the Blues are hardier than the Reds. Kind of a toss-up I guess. Unless you feel the need to get both kinds I would suggest getting either the Blue or Red. Play it safe if there...

    clean up crew????

I can't answer all of your questions, but here is what I know. I don't think Peppermint Shrimp eat anemones. If anything it might be the other way around. Peppermint Shrimp are mostly scavengers, and generally won't kill anything. At least that is my experience. On the other hand - Arrow Crabs...

    Seahorses

I am not an expert on seahorses, but I would strongly advise you not to buy them. They are very hard to keep and on top of that many are endangered in the wild. If you do decide to get one make sure you look for a captive bred seahorse. Also get a lot of information about how to feed and care...

    Is this good?

It looks good to me. BUT... My advice is just buy what you need. You can overstock your tank with a lot of cleaning critters the same way you can with fish. I would ask: What is in the tank now? and What kind of setup do you have? I assume you have some live rock... Hope this helps.

    Need Heater Recommendation

Need Heater Recommendation Maybe it is just bad luck, but I can't seem to buy a heater that works right. Usually it is a problem with the thermostat not being accurate, but I have had at least one quit on me entirely. Can someone recommend a reliable brand of heater? BTW I have a 37 gallon reef...

    Who eats pods?

Is there a difference between the eating habits of a Mandarin Goby and a Scooter Blenny? I would prefer a critter that will also accept flake or pellet food as needed to suppliment the diet.

    Who eats pods?

I am of course talking about critters in the fish tank. I have a lot of pods in my tank and no one to eat them. I know they are not doing any harm, but I think the population could stand to be thinned out a little. In the tank now I have 2 Skunk Clowns and a Striped Damsel, along with an...

    ***** unbelievable!

http://www.petcocruelty.com/ For anyone that cares. ***** is not a good place to do business with. I am not a rabid animal activist, but I believe what PETA is saying is true. Judge for yourself, but I think you will find that the evidence is pretty overwhelming that ***** sucks!

    Best Anemone For Skunk Clown

Thanks for everyone's input, especially ReefNut. I do have only the best intentions for by fish and other tank critters, but that can sometimes lead to disaster. The road to hell is paved with... It seems that the risks outweigh the benefits of adding an anemone at this time, so I will just let...

    Best Anemone For Skunk Clown

Thanks ReefNut. Cool pic too. I know that they don't need to have a host. I got them knowing that they would do ok without one. I just expected that they would acclimate to the tank environment a little better. They never go into the rocks, which have lots of caves and passages. They just hang...

    Best Anemone For Skunk Clown

Sorry if I was out of line. I definitely overreacted. The lighting: It is a retrofit from an Eclipse Hood. Power Compact 55w, Smart Dual 10Q Base (not sure what that means, but it is what it says on the light). Made by Custom Sea Life. From what I have researched the Carpet Anemone is the most...

    Best Anemone For Skunk Clown

This isn't research? Seriously - why post a message like that? I have outlined a question so either answer or don't. I have done research, now I want to get some additional opinions. If anyone wants to help I would be very grateful. Thanks.

    Too many pods?

I will drop a bunch of tiny little suitcases in the tank and get them ready to go. I hope you plan to fly them first class, they are very spoiled.

    Too many pods?

I know this is probably a dumb question, but what the hell. Can a tank have too many pods in it? I have a 37 gallon reef tank with over 20 lbs. of live rock. This is an established system over 2 years old. It's current population is 2 Skunk Clowns, 1 Striped Damsel, 1 Yellow Gorgonian, 1...

    Best Anemone For Skunk Clown

I have 2 small Orange Skunk Clowns that would love to have an anemone to call their own. They share the tank with a Striped Damsel, about dozen hermits, a Peppermint Shrimp and some snails. There is lots of live rock in the tank, but they seem to prefer to hang out in the open. I am worried that...

    Arrow Crab Info Needed

Will Arrow Crabs kill Hermit Crabs? I found my Arrow clutching the remains of a Scarlet Hermit this moring, but I don't know if it was a molt or perhaps it died of natural causes. In general what do Arrows prefer to eat? I have a 37 gallon reef setup with about 60 pounds of live rock.
