    Water circulation levels

First we would need to know your lighting and tank depth to give you a thumbs up or down on the corals you're mentioning. Without this information, all I can say is make sure you get photosynthetic gorgonians. The non-photosynthetic kind require heavy feeding and LOTS of flow to keep the algae...

good cleanup crew for 35 gal. reef?

good cleanup crew for 35 gal. reef?

Stunna, Sounds like a good list. I would switch out the fighting conch and mexican turbos. Turbos get REALLY big and tend to knock things over. Replace them with a few more ceriths. The fighting conch is going to have a tough time getting enough food in a tank that small. I'd say putting a...

    Need new Protein Skimmer

It really depends on your price range, and how you plan on running it (ie: external, in sump, hang on)

    Water circulation levels

I run a LOT of flow - and the fish enjoy it. Of course as said, there are lower flow areas in the tank for them to rest. It's really very difficult to make a tank ALL high flow. Unless you take out all the rock.

    Dosing Reef?

Personally, I dose nothing. Drip Kalk, run 10% weekly water changes.

brown sand, how to keep clean?

not so I've noticed really. A fighting conch is a good way to keep the diatoms under control on the sand. Make sure you get a really small one though - your size tank at such an early stage couldn't keep up with the food supply for a larger one... In my opinion.

brown sand, how to keep clean?

Only thing that will make it go away is patience. As stated, RODI should minimize it but hey - you're gonna get a diatom bloom it's just part of the process. Next comes the green algae - get your cleanup critters ordered when that starts to grow...

    Please Identify

The ones I had in huge quantities were harmless - but I've heard speckled anecdotal evidence of them munching on corals... keep an eye. Mine used to hang out a lot in the overflow areas - my guess is they were eating the sponges that were inhabiting the low flow high particale content areas.

    Stupid Alveopora! Ahhh

looks pretty good. Mine was a fast growing branching alveopora and I would periodically snap off a few branches and trade them to people. As far as a bacterial infection - doubt it. What's difficult to understand is ALL of the corals - my 2 main colonies (It got so big I had to split it) and...

what do I need for a frag tank?

allrightly then. Different story if it's going in the living room. Speaking in generalities: Tie the new tank into a common sump with your display tank (saves you time and money and larger water volumes are easier to keep stable) Get a big skimmer that'll run both setups. Get a nice shallow...

what size sump/refugium do you have?

90 main/90 sump/100 gallon fuge/30 gallon xenia fuge. Although the 100 fuge and 30 xenia are cycling seperately for now. I'll tie them into the sump in a couple months. I wouldn't worry about the high flow though your sump/fuge, if your reason for the fuge is nitrate reduction. I think the...

What are the optimum water parameters for a Reef tank?

yeah - get a new test kit. Personally I don't see anything wrong with running a lower than 450 calcium. anything higher than 360 and lower than 500 is fine. On the DKH - I'd stick between 7 and 12. The lower the nitrates the better - depending on what corals you have. SPS will prefer it to...

what do I need for a frag tank?

SOOO many variables. What kind of scale are you looking to do this on? IE: BIG - I want to make money, Medium - I just want to do it for fun, small - I just need some extra space to grow out the frags. I'll assume you're doing it for fun (as doing it for proffit is pretty much a HUGE...

    Stupid Alveopora! Ahhh

Am I missing some history with this guy? Seems like he's very quick to jump to conclusions but he means well. I mean - I thought I could change the world when I was a kid... Just because he's not doing things the scientific way - why should it matter? We all know alveos have a terrible track...

    some input on progress

Definitely unique! I'd take the rocks that are resting on the side glass and move them - trust me, when the coralline starts to spread you'll rue the day you leaned them on the glass. In regards to the coral it does look a little like a goniopora - however, I have a quick question: when it's...
