    live rock question

doesn't seem as if anyone has replied, so I'll give it a shot. In short, YES. Your live rock will need to cure in an isolated tank or rubbermaid container with a powerhead and a heater. Dump it in there with some fresh saltwater matching the salinity in your tank and then test until Ammonia and...

    Confusion on Canisters

I've got a Fluval 204 that I use... i've had it for a while and at first I just took everything out and used it as a really expensive powerhead... but after having a bunch of gunk floating around the tank I put in some pads and a bag of Carbon and it cleared up terrific (and the carbon helps...

    Opinion on first fish?

My tank has been set up since Jan 1st and has been cycled for a little while now... I've added a sizable clean up crew about a week ago with no losses (24 hermits and 10 snails). My friend is tearing down his tank (moving overseas.. can't take it with him unfortunately) and is looking for a...

    Best Food For Clarkii?

Hey all, I'm thinking about getting a Clarkii clown and was curious about their eating habits. I've read that they frequently will feed their host anenome before themselves.... since I don't have one (yet) will this be a problem? Also some have said that they won't eat flake food? I've also read...

    OT - Large JellyFish found!

Check this out: http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/West/05/0....ap/index.html huge jellyfish... heard it on CNN this morning. I figured since it was about something in the ocean you all might be interested in it. Not quite as cool as that giant squid, but it is a new species of jellyfish. Cheers!

    Next addition?

Hey all, My tank has been setup for quite a while now and has just recently finished cycling. I've added 10 snails and 12 hermits (blue leg) to help control the algae, but my sandbed is still a federal disaster area. Would a Fighting Conch help with this? Or should I get a few more hermits...

    Cure LR????!!!!

LR curing is basically getting the rock ready to place in your tank. If you put un-cured (just shipped to you or purchased from store) into an established tank it will re-cycle your tank and raise your ammonia levels to dangerous levels. Curing LR is easy! Just get a few rubbermaid containers...

    Help With Powerheads Please

I don't have any experience with the wave maker you mentioned, but I know maxijet's have always been reliable for me. I had a few penguin 1140's for a while, both failed and I pulled out a maxijet that i'd had for about a 100 some years and it worked (still is actually) great... so I bought a...

    clean up crew

If your ammonia is around 8 ppm I would get that down as soon as possible... your tank may not have cycled yet or something may have died recently and is hiding behind a rock. Since the tank is only a month old it is more likely however that the tank is not cycled. Have some patience, and when...

    fluval users

I'd just use it as a power head. I'd run carbon in it to do some water polishing (not all the time)... but the majority of the time stuff will just get caught in it and cause a nitrate explosion :D They are nice to have... sometimes putting in those filter pads will help catch stuff that is...

    protine skimming during cycle?

Just thought I'd throw my two cents in, I think it is a good idea to run the skimmer if you are using LR to start your cycle. I'm about 1.5 weeks into doing just that and I've had to empty my skimmer collection cup every other day since I turned it on. A bonus is that the skimmer should help...
