we fought nitrate for awhile. We found that our tap water was bad. we now add ammonquill to the tap water. Also no one has mentioned that you are keeping the lights on way to long. Algea love the bright lights. try limiting the light time. We had a red slime algea bloom. We limited the lights...
what was the salinlty when you were changed the water. to much or to little will distress your fish. That is why they are appearing to be breathing heavy. When fish become distressed they flair there gills. it is not nessary an o2 problem.
We have so much water flow it's not funny. We have a canster filter, biowheel, protein skimmer and 2 powerheads moving about about 400+ gallons/hour in a 75 gal. tank. I think the alkalinity may be an issue and the CO2 but I'm not sure how to lower this. We're doing routine water changes...
We have the dreaded red slime problem. We need to vacuum our live rock, coral and crushed coral/sand bed. There are a couple of different types of vacuums out there and I need advice on which one would be best.
We've seen one that has little brushes made specifically for coral but doesn't...
I have a very large colony of Zoo coral. What is the proper way to frag this? I've never done this but this is a huge piece and I want to spread it through my tank.
We were a little scared when we first bought the SeaClone as this message board really panned them. We've had no problems and it's running great.
The 100 sounds like a good size for your tank. Do you have live rock? My LFS told me that if I had enough live rock, I wouldn't need other...
I am still a newbie at this...but one thing I've learned...better to go with a bigger filter or skimmer than you think you need. If the data sheet says the filter/skimmer is good for 55 gal, go the next size up. We're running the SeaClone and a biowheel and a canister filter for our 75 gal...
Try testing your water before you put it in the tank. We discovered (the hard way) that our tap water was the cause of almost all our problems. Our ammonia and nitrates both spiked through the roof and we kept doing water changes and losing fish. We were told to test the water before we put...
We have a Seclone 150 protein skimmer in a 75 gal tank. We love it. It suck out more gross stuff than you can imagine. The advice we got was to go double the size of tank for water flow.
We were told to clean the skimmer once a week...we have to clean it every 2 to 3 days or it gets...
My feather duster just did the same thing. He crawled 1/2 way out of his tube then would go back in. Now, he's completely out and at the bottom of the tank. I can see the "duster" (crown???) but it's about the size of a dime. Normally, when he's out he's about 2.5"-3" across. Is this...
The people at me LFS told me that anything I put in the tank will kill my corals and inverts. Is this correct??? I'm starting to see a few little white specks on my clown. Is this Ick?
My Tomato Clown and Striped Damsel look "fuzzy" on one side of their bodies. The act ok and otherwise appear healthy as does everyone else in our tank. What is this and how do I take care of this?????
We did the 100% water change at the advice of a well informed fish person. All of our levels were off the charts due do a dead sea sponge and anemone. We do have 10 pounds LR in the tank and I ordered 15 more pounds and it should be here any day. I have 1 small coral and 1 anemone, tangs...
I can't seem to get my ammonia levels to 0. I've done a complete 100% water change and the levels were great for a couple of days but the ammonia creeps up. The pH is a little low: 7.8. All of our other levels appear to be ok: Salinity at 1.022, Nitrites<.2 Nitrates <10 Ammonia 6.0 There...
I have 10 pounds of LR in my tank that I bought from a great LFS but it cost me a small fortune. I ordered another 25 pounds of "Fiji Live Rock" from another source (less $$$). What is the difference between this LR and the stuff I already have? It is supposed to be "cured". Should I...
Our tank has fish, inverts, 1 anenome, 1 coral. What is the proper pH for this? Our tank is 75 gal. and the test ( Fast Test)we did says the pH is 7.8. I think this is low...if so, how do I correct this?
