    Bumble Bee Goby

The Bumblebee Goby (B. xanthozona) is a small, bottom dwelling, carnivorous fish that is distinguished by its solid unbroken black stripes and bright yellow body. Potential owners beware: Many aquarium stores will sell both Brachygobius xanthozona and Brachygobius nunus as Bumblebee Gobies. The...

Why I continue to use Reef Crystals...

We'll have to ask Imforbis, our resident chemist. I've heard of inconsistency of batches in the past, but not so much in recent times. I think IO has better quality control these days. I've never gotten hold of a bad batch, and my test results are almost identical on all the boxes I've purchased...

    Are these feather dusters?

Spiroid, colonial, cluster, hawaiian feather, etc., are all worms that live in tubes with feathery crowns that capture food particles. Just as there is a variety of fish in the same family, dusters come in several shapes and sizes. Large picture files have to be resized until they are 1mb or...

Why I continue to use Reef Crystals...

Would be kind of hard to sample without laboratory equipment... it's a hard, calcified residue.

    Are these feather dusters?

Although I only see one crown, it and the tubes appear to be colonial feather dusters.

    Robs Nano Reef

Nice colony of zoas, and I don't blame your girlfriend... who can resist a coco worm? I miss mine. Had it almost two years, which I think is a long time for one in captivity. And of course, you saved the best for last... lol! Beautiful acro! They'll spruce up the tank for sure. Good job, Robert!!!

Why I continue to use Reef Crystals...

Almost all of the negative reviews about Instant Ocean Reef Crystals point to the same thing... residue in the mixing container. I've dealt with it since I started in the hobby, and never really understood why it formed. I've heard different reasons, including it's likely due to an anti-caking...

    Back to basics- 29g adventure

Use Bengal Gold Roach Spray. It'll get rid of anything that bugs you (pun inteneded! lol!!!). It doesn't take much at all to be effective, lasts forever, and won't stink up the place. I made my wife a firm believer in the stuff. Just a tiny bit around the tank if needed, and you should be fine...

    1guydude picture thread

Wow... what happened? Did the tank get trashed? I hope your floor didn't give way. I have a dirt floor basement underneath my 125, and I knew the floor couldn't possibly hold it as it was. I bought a couple of 6'x6' treated posts and laid them perpendicular to the floor joists, built a...

Don't you just love it when everything starts to fall into place? Happy for you, bro! Oh man, you'd have to get a bigger tank to handle all the new growth! LOL!!!

    Finally

I know what you mean... I had a huge outbreak of it in my tank, and I thought it was going to completely take over the tank. I was watching the horror stories I'd read about taking place in front of my eyes. I thought it was just a matter of time before I'd have to tear the tank down and start...

    Finally

Nice! Beautiful RBTA you have there. (pssst... just between us, you might want to get a handle on that hair algae before it gets out of control)

    New Shark Tank

I suspected you would figure it out on your own, since you have prior experience with sharks. The only question I have is why you don't want to use an ATO. Something as simple as a float-type ATO in the sump sure will make life a lot easier. Not sure what the evaporation rate will be for this...

    Red thread algae HELP

Could be either Gelidium, or Lyngbya algae. If parameters are good, the fuel for this algae may be coming from your cheap Chinese LED's. I avoid these lights like the plague. While the price point makes them attractive, the quality standards are a giant red flag. Who knows which off-the-shelf...

The monti cap is looking very good, the blue ridge is growing... maybe just on the epoxy... but that's growth, and the hydnophora looks super-healthy with it's polyp extension after dark. Very nice! Pictures often tell the story much better than words, no matter how well we describe things, and...

Sump: Will this work for a 20 gallon aquarium?

EShopps PF-Nano Nano Overflow Box is rated for 200 GPH (max), which should be perfect for your tank if you want to use a sump. Yes, HOB stands for "hang on back". One like the link you provided will work nicely. Of course, you'd have to provide lighting for the macro algae. If you wanted to use...

On a side note, I'm glad the hydnophora is starting to encrust onto the epoxy. Growth is always a welcome sight!

Okay, now I'm really lost! In post #200 you said, "For magnesium, I use magnesium sulphate- or Epsom salt. It's cheap. Four pounds is about three dollars. I take a funnel and add in four pounds in a water jug and then pour RO water over it and shake it to mix." Now... two posts later... you're...

Sump: Will this work for a 20 gallon aquarium?

It depends. You have to have a way to get water from the tank to the sump, and from the sump back to the tank. Some sumps come with 3' hoses(s) to carry water from the tank to the sump. If not, you'll need a hose for that, as well as a hose to carry water back to the tank. Does the tank have an...
