    Tip for measuring Magnesium...

" I had just dosed enough Magnesium for 500 gallons... in a 140 gallon system." Dosages based on tank size are just very general guidelines. Similar to watts per gallon for lighting - nearly irrelevant. What I recommend is to start charting how far down a trace element falls in a week and how...

    Marine snow....

None of those can benefit from Marine Snow. The LPS, Button polyps, and probably the Mushrooms can eat any minced meaty seafood. The Brain Coral is going to prefer fairly large pieces of meat. Larger than you would expect but can make do with something like Mysis Shrimp or chunks of seafood...

    Marine snow....

Perhaps I'm outdated. The last analysis I saw on it was quite some time ago. At that time it was 99+% water with some dead algae particulates floating around in it. What is it you're trying to feed with it?

    Marine snow....

Sure. But why bother with Marine Snow?

First SPS trial was a success...

FYI - When a coral loses it's Zooxanthellae due to lack of lighting we call it "bleached" or "Bleached out". It doesn't mean Chlorox, just that it's going to need TLC in order to grow its Zoox back.

Help me make a sump/refugium for this situation!

Just so everyone else understands what head height is: It's the difference between the water level in the display tank and the water level in the sump compartment the pump is in. Just remember it's the water levels that determine head height, not the location of the containers.

    Scooter blenny, ich or not?

They will reproduce if you give them a chance. They're very easy to remove though. Just let them grow out a bit and once they're to 1/4" or so you should be able to use a net to scoop them out.

RO/DI really needed for Fish + Dead Live rock system?

Right, that's the restrictor. It creates backpressure to force water through the RO membrane. It is required for the RO to work properly. In your case I believe it may be defective and is not allowing any water through. One more thing... are you in a cold area of the country? What is the...

RO/DI really needed for Fish + Dead Live rock system?

Caution - if it working right you'll get a LOT of flow out of the waste of the RO with no restrictor so watch out for a mess...

RO/DI really needed for Fish + Dead Live rock system?

The flow restrictor will be inside the waste line coming from the RO (top chamber). Try disconnecting the waste line from the RO and see if you get flow.

RO/DI really needed for Fish + Dead Live rock system?

I believe the last stage (far left) would be your DI chamber. I would expect that one to fill slowly on a 24gpd unit. I think that's fine and working. What I don't understand is why you're not getting waste water out yet. For every cup of water going into the DI you should have 3 or 4 cups...

This is excellent advice for hobbyists wanting to proudly display one of these:

RO/DI really needed for Fish + Dead Live rock system?

No, something's wrong. It should just take a minute to fill up all the stages with water and then water should immediately start flowing out of the waste line. Can you tell which stages have water and if any are empty?

Does my foxface need a swim companion?

He doesn't need a swim buddy.

What the hell is this ?

It doesn't look like coral spawn tme. Those just look like small eggs floating around the water column or "smoke", usually both... The animals in your video appear to be swimming. Epitokes will swim by wiggling, other larvae will swim by flicking their tails. Hermit Crab larvae look smilar...

The only difference would be what's your preference.

What the hell is this ?

With the camera moving around so much it was difficult to tell. I think it's either newly hatched Shrimp larvae (some type of cleaner shrimp?) or epitokes (Bristleworm reproduction). Either way it's nothing to be concerned about.
