    Cycle time

I am fairly new at this also. My questions are what does miss a cycle mean. What is the cleanup crew going to eat? And lastly I assume these readings you are looking for have to be a result of something introduced into your water. What did you introduce to produce the readings you are hoping...

Snake's Method for Algae Scrubber Basics

Quote: Also water replacement IMO does not equal a water change in the way we discuss water changes in the hobby. but there is a difference between doing a water change and changing water. I will jump the gun to my brother Henrys question of how so. I could say it just sounds good like Lucy in...

Just for those who want to get technical scrubbers do in fact employ a filter media. (The screen)

Just curious. How long must something survive in your tank before you consider yourself successfulin keeping it?

So do we also then have to factor in how much money we can spend on our tanks? If the wow factor is a gauge of how successful we are then a hobbyist who can continually replenish their livestock for said wow factor can then consider that they are successful. Hypocrisy indeed.

Snake's Method for Algae Scrubber Basics

in post 4 your personal scrubber why not two couplings so you only have to remove the screen and not the screen and pump and pump plumbing. And in post 6 why not put a T below the coupling to feed the water and just elbow the vertical to horizontal

Snake's Method for Algae Scrubber Basics

?? More like dealing in absolutes. So you will admit that there has in fact been a change in water in your system . All I am saying is that your thread would have IMO been better served if you stated that through the use of a scrubber you have had no need to physically remove phosphates and...

Snake's Method for Algae Scrubber Basics

Does this statement imply that you have never changed the water in your tank since 7/01/11? The physical or evaporation proses of removal should have nothing to do with it. In both cases a specific amount of water is removed and replaced. As far as I know nitrates are remove during evaporation...

Perhaps we should also give the species we are keeping their due. I am sure there are many species living long lives IN SPITE of the hobbyists

    Fish After Ich

I on the other hand am SURE it started with the introduction of the ick parasite and this introduction may have in fact had nothing to do with the tang Quote: I'm sure it started with your tang, since he was most likely stressed and susceptible to the disease.

Snake's Method for Algae Scrubber Basics

Quote: I have not done a single water change on this aquarium since I started it 7-1-11 Actually my friend I do not see how this can be a true statement. Unless you have found a way to eliminate evaporation and we all know that scrubbers cause added evaporation and also have no salt creep were...

Just curious. How long must something survive in your tank before you consider yourself successfulin keeping it?

We as hobbyists have to remember that we are attempting to do the impossible. We could never replicate the time line of anything taken from the ocean and placed into a closed system. There are just too many variables involved. I think all we can do is strive to provide the best quality of life...

Just got done re-aquascaping my tank.

Ok this is just me; first I love the elegance skeleton. Now sit in front of your tank and try to visualize more of a broken up horizontal line the tops of your rocks present. IMO if you break up that line by stacking up the rock work in various places you give your tank a more natural look as...
