IMO there are no sponges that are easy to keep, can they be kept yes but it’s almost like having a species only tank with the care they need

You state your tank has been running for two years. It seems to sterile to just be from what you are dosing. Are you using chlorinated tap water

UV sterilizers are great at what they do. Unfortunately they do not provide a complete method of killing the ick parasite. The sheer numbers of free swimming theronts simply do not pass in front of the bulb before they find a host. Then you have contact time involved and how clean the bulb is...
