You want to drain first than add you want your salinity at 14 ppt salinity...

The same applies IMO to removing and adding a small diameter hose will slowly take out and then add water to your tank. You can do this with the lights off and the room dim. I would also just go by salinity when checking and I am sure you know why
Just use a small diameter hose to syphon out the water and replace at water change. I like to also treat the tank with prime when preforming hypo
