sounds like die off to me. No flow + No heat = no sustinence for bacteria colonies which also = dying bacteria, cycle it over again.

    Coralline algae

Liverock is whitish brown in color a lot of time when people buy it because they are produced in big drums in most stores with no lights on them. Coralline algae will definitely grow in time, it just needs light, thats all. Oh yeah, and it seems coralline enjoys lower intensity lighting. Power...

    Jbj K2 Caught Fire!!!!!

As the title states. I've had the light for about a year (70 watt HQI). I had my weekend drill this weekend with the Army, and I get a frantic call from my fiancee back home. There was a strong smell of plastic burning in the house. We couldn't figure it out at first but then I heard her scream...

    Featherduster ???

feather dusters are unusually hardy against most things... Essentially lol they're bullet proof. they are worms, therefore require no light. they pretty much filter feed throught the water column so target feeding them is kind of unnecessary... Just leave them be, they'll be fine, they are also...

    power heads for 240 gal

If I were you, with that size tank you should either get some high powered Koralia powerheads or the higher powered Tunze powerhead. Also, it depends on what you want to keep in it... Some corals like sps require a very high turnover rate while soft corals require far less turnover and depending...

    Take Two Questions

When you say Ro/Di added, do you mean you weren't using ro/di when the algae bloom occurred?? If so I can almost guarantee at was a cause of a large part of your problem. Also, did you place the tank anywhere where it got hit by direct sunlight? That can wreack havoc as well, especially with...

    questions about refugium please!!!

From those dimensions I'm guessing its about a 50-60ish gallon sump which is a pretty decent volume sump for your system. It will do the job well but some with tanks that size, people tend to prefer sumps that most snugly fit under their stands for the extra water volume. Thats the way I see...

    um having some trouble

+1. Shrimp are HIGHLY sensitive to temp changes and salinity changes... $10 says they got shocked when the salinity/temperature from the bag mixed with that of the new water. Your best bet is to drip acclimate them for around 2 or so hours. Always works for me.

    Bubble Coral?????

+1, its definitely a Bubble Tip Anemone. Look at the bulbs on it, bubble corals have an oval shape, that one has a rounded with a sort of tip at the end. Definitely a BTA... Lucky sucker, you just saved like $30 on one, lol. Got any clowns? I'd say just leave it there, chances are when its...

    please read pairing clowns

Gee people, give the guy a chance lol. Talk about flaming his poor new-b rear end. What size is your tank its going in? How big is BIG? It probably can be done but I'd get the smaller one first, let it become established a little while in the tank before adding a much larger one. That way the...

    Algae Growth! HELP!!!!

$10 says high nitrate from such a large bioload in a 46, and possible phosphate from the tap..... Increase the flow to the affected area, I bet the algae your talking about is cyano. But first give it some time to go away naturally, it is extremely common for an algae outbreak when the bulbs are...

    Water flow in refugium ?

+1. I got an 18" HOB refugium that I put a 92GPH E-bay pump in it to give my chaeto some decent flow. It has worked wonders! I aim it at the wall for dispersed flow and it keeps my chaeto well "flushed" if you will lol. -Josh
