    Keeping Phosphates in check

I have a wet/dry canister filter. I do not currently have a phosphate problem, I'm just thinking of preventive ways to keep one from happening. If I keep the filter clean the phosphates shouldn't be a problem?

    Keeping Phosphates in check

I don't have a sump either, so I'm not to big on the idea of something else hanging off my tank.

    Keeping Phosphates in check

Thinking ahead I'm wondering what I can do to keep my phosphates in check. I had a really bad hair algae problem in my last tank, and now that I have my new tank I don't want to repeat the problem. I was looking at the Phosban reactor 150. Anybody ever use this?? Or have any ideas of how I can...

    water change question

alright, thanks you. Sorry if the question was a little confusing. I have always done 20% every two weeks of the total volume. I'm going to start doing 10% every week though. Thanks again.

    water change question

I plan on doing one 10% water change a week. My tank is 75 gallons so do I change 7 gallons (10% of 75) of 10% of the amount of water that I was able to get into the take (about 55 gallons of water).Might be a weird question, but it crossed my mind. Thanks

    Tank is still cloudy

I used 100 lbs of oolite live sand. I only stirred it up a little bit. You can hardly see the rocks in the back of the tank.

    Tank is still cloudy

Its been a week today and my tank is still cloudy.. It looked better yesterday but than I moved some sand around and made it cloudy again. It just seems that after a week it should have settled. Should I shut the powerheads and filter off?

I think I messed up bad

Alright, I switched the LR over into some fresh water last night. This morning it still smells pretty bad. Do you think I should keep moving it into fresh saltwater until the smell goes away?? Than add it to the tank??

What does 25 degree mean?? Are the green wolf eels very aggressive?? Or is a 75 gallon too small for one?

I think I messed up bad

I'm going to go and get fresh water to make new saltwater. I'll put the LR in the new water with a heater and a powerhead. Sound good?

I think I messed up bad

I think what I'm going to do is try and salvage my LR, sell my light fixture and corals and go with a 75 gallon aggressive tank. The reef tank is just way to much to take care of for me, and because I don't have the time to take care of it I had algae problems. I will try hard to salvage my LR...

I think I messed up bad

Another problem is that theres still some hair algae on the rock because I had a bad hair algae problem in my old tank. Is it okay to still put the LR in the new tank even though theres algae on them?

I think I messed up bad

While moving my tank I put all of my LR in a bin with water. I did not put a heater or a powerhead in the bin and now I have what looks like a lot of dead stuff floating around in the bin and it smells really bad. Now what should I do? Should I throw out all of this LR, is it salvageable?? HELP!?!
