    Odd growth on rocks?

Looks like normal coraline and algea growth to me. In time you'll start to see all of the other rock doing the same, as well you'll see the substrate start changing color from the diatoms.

    for those w/o a chiller....

Internal air flow in the room helps a lot believe it or not. As well if you're using equipment under the DT, you need to realize that heat rises. In this case it's rising to the bottom of your DT, the substrate is acquiring that heat and creating the warmer water from below. Then your lighting...

    Purpleup?

When I restarted my tank I had a cal. level of less than 20ppm, so Purple up was a feasable solution to regenerate the advancement. I added nothing except the purpleup directly to the tank once a week for 2 months then checked my level and was reading over 500ppm, so I stopped. After waiting...

    Looking for ideas here

My 36gal. has been re-established now for almost a year and I just have that fear of taking a big loss again like I did once before. However as they say, when you fall off the horse... Anyway I'm looking for some ideas here on easy beginner corals. I'm thinking some shrooms and pulsating zenia...

    Dead crab or molting?

Kind of neat isn't it? Typically most molters will go into hiding for a while because the new skin/shell hasn't hardened after the molt. It's pretty much like picking a scab off of a cut on your arm. The scab is hard, but underneath it's soft and easy to hurt again.

I Found a Baby Brittle Star in my Canister Filter

I happened upon a mixed variety of hitchhiker baby stars and they all thrive quite nicely in the live rocks. Every feeding time you start seeing all these little arms popping out to catch some flakes.
