I don't think I'll be chartering a dive boat from this guy...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44772736/ns/us_news-life/ This story is pretty crazy. How would this even happen? I think that I would notice that the guy that was sitting beside me on the ride out was missing. Though I guess there is a bit of confusion with everyone stowing their gear after a...

My water is GREEN and I'm at the end of my rope with this tank...

Crazy. I really can't think of anything to do other than yanking all of your macro's, putting them in a bucket of saltwater with a light for a week and killing the tank lights. I think your choices are nutrient starve it, light starve it, kill it with UV or live with it. Maybe you should...

My water is GREEN and I'm at the end of my rope with this tank...

I think I would probably try a double dose of GFO and lots of water changes to try to limit phosphates.

Wet dry with reef tank? Fuge the alternative....

I run both a wet/dry and a fuge. The most important thing with a wet/dry is to keep clean filter floss in front of the bioballs. Change the floss when water starts flowing over the floss instead of through it. I only float my balls once every few months. Weekly cleaning is overkill. They...

well i just want picture of everyones tank just so i can so how someday my tank can look like

The dead Alveopora skeleton on the left side is a casualty of me getting hardwood floors refinished. Had to turn off my air conditioning and open the windows during the day (in the summer in miami) because of the intense polyurithane fumes. I lost three corals to the fumes and/or temp swings.

well i just want picture of everyones tank just so i can so how someday my tank can look like

I don't have any pics of the tank after I had to take out all of the rock and coral to catch filefish that was eating my coral. I do have a crappy video that I made with the camera on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet. The colors are washed out and you can barely make out anything really light...

HO t5 or LED (noob to lighting)

You should be fine with a 4 bulb T5 in a 30G. I have 48" 4 bulb T5's in a 90G with clams and SPS. Make sure your fixture has individual reflectors. For bulbs I'm using 2 x ATI blue plus, UVL Aquasun 10K and UVL Super Actinic. I have some cheap LED's that I originally bought for my fuge. I...

    Hydrometer

Micro bubbles sticking to the needle can cause false readings. My first post here was "OMG I think I nuked my tank" because my hydrometer had air sticking to the needle and was reading 1.032. I threw it in the trash and bought a refractometer as soon as I figured out what was going on.

My SWC 160 Protein Skimmer IS NOT WORKING

I'm not planning on changing anything and I know that there's almost always more than one was to skin a cat when it comes to reefing. I'm just curious as to what the advantages of a scrubber are over traditional macro's. Quote: Originally Posted by SnakeBlitz33 hair algae out competes...

    Is this 'hair algae'?

Manually removing and starving the algae of light is a temporary solution. It is also somewhat difficult to totally control hair algae with a clean up crew. You really need to limit the nutrients that are allowing large scale growth of hair algae. Most people with reef tanks concentrate on...

    newb need help !!!

I used natural sea water for almost a year when I first setup my tank. It worked fine, but my tank tended to smell a bit like the ocean (not in a good way) when I did water changes. I eventually setup an RO/DI unit and switched to using salt mix instead. It just seems much cleaner to me and...

My SWC 160 Protein Skimmer IS NOT WORKING

This is a little OT, but this thread seems to have turned into another scrubber/skimmer thread. I'm curious as to why a scrubber is better than macro's. This has probably been covered extensively, but I haven't really done much research on scrubbers. Why would a scrubber be more effective...

    Green polyp leather dying?

Leather's can shrink down to 1/4 their size and look like crap even when they are healthy. It can also take them a few weeks to fully recover from trauma. More than likely it will be fine. Just make sure it has moderate flow and leave it alone. Messing with it will just prolong the recovery.

    RO system Setup

According to the manual for my Spectrapure Maxcap RO/DI, softening the water will actually help to prolong the life of your RO membrane. I use the feed and the drain from my washer for my RO/DI. I just attached a garden hose Y to the cold water feed for the washer and shoved the waste water...

    New LED lighting.

There's a DT at one of my LFS running an Acan lighting fixture. It seems like a pretty sweet fixture and there has been good SPS growth with it, but it is super expensive.

    New LED lighting.

I just wanted to mention that you can get a Aqua Illuminations Sol Super Blue LED fixture for about the same price as a DIY. I don't have any experience with these fixtures, but they seem decent from what I've read online.
