    Montipora accident

I was moving a piece of live rock to make a place to put the new purple stylo that I picked up today. Like an idiot I temporarily put the piece of LR on my cross brace while I was moving something out of the way. The piece of LR fell into the tank and broke off a 5 inch by 3 inch piece of my...

    Dead fish this morning.....

I've had five or six Midas Blenny's. They all eventually jumped. I just keep replacing them because I really like them. I have an open backed hood with eggcrate across the hole in the back. The eggcrate doesn't seem to be too much of an obstacle for them.

    the hockey thread

I just can't stand Lindy Ruff. I've had a festering hatred of that guy for over a decade. As a whole, I don't really mind Buffalo. There are other teams (pittsburgh) that I dislike a lot more. I moved down to Miami from Philly three years ago. I miss going to games at the FU Center/Wachovia...

    Need Duncan help =(

I had a bristletail filefish that mauled my Duncans. They have been like yours for the last week or so, but seem to be coming out a little more each day since removing the filefish. You definitely want to get the dkH up. I'd do a water change. Then either drip some kalk or use baking soda...

What's the best way to get rid of hair algae?

Research ways to lower your phosphates. The hair algae won't grow without phosphates and phosphates are bad for corals. Low levels of phosphates interfere with calcification in stony corals. High levels of phosphates can harm corals. Personally I control phosphates by doing regular water...

    What to do?

It will be a long time before you should even consider getting a mandarin. The vast majority of mandarin's eat only live copepods. You need a very mature tank with self sustaining populations of copepods before purchasing a mandarin dragonet. The majority of mandarins that are purchased in...

    POWER OUTAGE!

This video is a bit long and dry. I suggest watching videos of reef tanks on youtube while listening to it. That's what I did. :)

    christmas tree worms

I have a Xmas tree rock. It's a rock encrusted with the SPS Porites. It has lots of Xmas tree worms living in it. I've read that there is a symbiotic relationship between the worm and the Porites. Mine thrives up on top of my rock, baking under my T5's with pretty heavy flow. I've never had...

Anyone else sometimes just sit and stare into your refugium?

I must have spent an hour and a half last night peering into my fuge after the tank lights turned off and the fuge lights turned on. It's amazing how much life is in there that you don't see until you look very closely. The top of my chaeto ball looked like an ant hill with all of the amphapods...

    Supplement Discussion

I like to soak food in garlic for a while after adding new fish. I'm not a QTer (gasp). I've had a few ich outbreaks, but haven't lost any fish to it. It's my personal belief that the garlic helps. It may just be superstition, but it makes me feel a little better. I also dose iron every now...
