    Coral Browning

I would guess it is a light issue. Usually when corals turn brown it is because they are adapting to less light or less usefull light. The zooxanthellae are a brown collar and they convert the light in your sytem into food for your mushrooms. Meaning, less light = more zooxanthellae = more brown.

Coralife Aqualight 96 Watt Quad 50/50

I dont' know what the depth of your tank is, but if you build your rock up you should be able to keep the more ligth intesive corals at the top and less light intensive at the bottom. That is what corals do in the wild, so it should work in your tank.

    Well, here we go again.

What do you mean, " put the rock on pvs shelving?" I put it on the egg crate to allow for circulation under the rock. Is there a better way of doing this with pvc. My spray bars will blow water through the rock and should take care of detritous. I could be missing something.

    Skimmer during cycle.

well, here is the reason I was thinking it might be a good idea. When I moved my tank from Vegas up here to Oregon I got rid of all my livestock, but I kept my live rock. The rock has been siting in a bucket for about two months and is very dead. With that said there are lots of dead worms and I...

    frustrated, please help

I would like to know how old your lights are as well. That can definetly do it. I didn't see in your post if you are using ro/di water or tap. That could definetly contribute. I just read an article on getting rid of Cyano and it mentioned a series of 25 - 30 percent water changes, combined with...

    PC lights

I wasn't trying to ignore your advice. I was just speaking from my experience. I have read articles written by experienced hobbiests who have kept anenomes happy under less powerful lights, but the fact of the matter is, for most people they are not a good fit with what they are trying to do...

    what wattage for 18" depth?

I was just wonering what kind of wattage I should get for my tank that I am setting up right now. I am going to get halides and was considering the 150 WATT 14K HQI REEFSTAR. Does anyone have an opinion on this setup. Would that be enough light for clams and some sps. It is 18" cube.

    PC lights

good choice. I had a bta and that is what died under my lights. They move all the time too. I say stick with corals. They pretty much stay were you want them too and provide much more variety. And the first time your bta crawls across your favorite group of zoo's you will wish you never had it.

    PC lights

you may be able to keep a condi under those lights, but most clownfish will not host a condi. I have seen damsels host condi's before, but rarely will you see a clownfish do it. Their are many corals you could keep. Leathers, polyps, shrooms and others.

    Building a New tank

Are their any other opinions on this? I am going to be buying my lights soon and would like to hear what people's experience is with halides over smaller tanks.
