What is everyone using for light timers???

I went out to Aco Hardware and bought the simple light/appliance timer and I have had no problems what so ever. Just make sure water is not getting on your timer, and it should last for a while. -Andy

    The Big Move -- Status

Well last night I broke down the fish tank so that the carpet people can come in and do there thing. So far here is what I did. 1. Went and purchased 3 18 gallon rubbermaid containers. 2. Syphoned equal amounts of water into each leaving about 4" of water in the tank. 3. Put one big piece of...

    Questions - ??

Do I need to keep the water circulating in the tank that contains just the sand? I have one power head I can put in the garbage can with the fish and rocks. Do I need to put any of the sand in the garbage can to? What about the snails and hermits? I want to try and do this without restarting a...

    Questions - ??

heh, I just bought the 70 gallon. Yes I have 3 fish, just 2 green chromis and 1 bangai..I was thinking just move it into the kitchen about 15 feet away, actually I was wondering if there was a wonder product I could use to slide the whole setup. Might wind up trying to get another piece of rug...

    CC to Tropical Play Sand

Another thing that might help keep it from getting cloudy is saturate small amounts of sand in RO water to get it wet, so that it will sink faster. I have read on here somewhere that people have used PVC pipe and a funnel to poor the sand into the tank to help reduce the amount of sand that...

    Questions - ??

All, I have a question that I think I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing. Currently my salinity is at 1.020 and I am trying to raise it to around 1.022 or 1.023 so that I can start adding corals and such in a month or two. I have been pre-mixing a large cup full of water and...

    new setup (advise)

I would make sure you have a good base. I used Natures Ocean Live Sand and it worked well. Try and get some good cured live rock , approx 1lb per gallon of water. This will help you cycle the tank. Or you can get a couple of green chromis and put in about half the live rock with the live sand...

    Switching from cc to sand

I think I would do it now, add the live sand and you can try it with the damsels in there, but beware they are known to be very territorial especially after you put them through the cycle. I heard they can get kinda grumpy. --Andy

What is the best type of live sand??

I used 20lbs Natures ocean and 50lbs of Southdown sand and it worked really well. I like it a lot, and would recommend it to anyone. It almost has the same shelf life of a Hostess Twinky. (9 months)

    Diatom ... on a rampage

Trey, I used the deep ocean sea salts which has a dechlorination agent in the salt. So the chlorine should have been removed when the salt was added. Ok, I will add a clean-up crew. Should it be the standard size (i.e., 2 hermits per 10 gallons) or should i do just have of a cleanup crew to...

    Diatom ... on a rampage

I have 2 damsels and 1 bangai cardinalfish, along with 40lbs of live rock and 20lbs of live sand (along with 50 lbs of southdown sand). I have not seen anything move, and I am getting a little green hairy algae on the live rock, but just a little. I have reduced my time to 8 hrs, but it is just...

    Diatom ... on a rampage

OK, it has been two weeks, and my levels have not moved from normal. I used the natures ocean live sand and about 40 lbs of live rock and have not seen anything move. In the last week my tank has been over run with diatom, on the rocks, sand and glass etc. Just curious if it would be ok to go...

    How do you......?

Well maybe I am getting confused as to what you are calling the "sump". Essentially what i have is a box hanging into my aquarium. From there it goes down into the wet/dry. The hose connects to the lid of the wetdry which then trickles the water through a filter, then into the area with the...

    RO Water Filter

I bought an RO filter by UltraLife Reef Systems. I got a 25gpd system for $120. I just hook it up to my faucet once a week and fill a medium sized garbage can that holds my water. I have heard of some people using something from Kent. Check the Equipment & DIY section for more information. --andy

    How do you......?

Ok, looking around all these websites and pictures I noticed a couple things. First off I dont see much equipment hanging in your tanks. Right now I have 1 Heater, the wet/dry hanging over the back , and now 1 CAP 600 power filter for circulation. Where is everyone putting this equipment? Are...
