I leave mine on 24/7 no problems. They aren't bright enough to cause any unwanted algae, they are 1w each at most.

I don't think I would, it would probably [hr] up how the water flows through it and it would be a pain to try to get back out. I would just use it for frag mounts like nietzsche said.

Have you thought about T5? Do a TEK 6 bulb retro fit and you'll be able to keep whatever you want. With MH heat will definately be an issue, T5 won't be.

What size tank do you have? The Aqua C remora/ remora pro are good hang-on skimmers. I use the remora on my 46 and it works great. Haven't heard anything about the Tunze.

For the lighting I would go with the 6 bulb TEK T5 setup and you'll be fine, T5's run more efficient then MH does and still allow you to keep whatever you want. I would also recommend starting with some soft corals because they are easier to keep. When you go SPS will need about 20-25x turnover...

46 reef 180 reef in the setup stages The stuff from the 46 will go in the 180 so i will only have 1 tank.
